First time I've seen BBC Sport use one of the sports news presenters in the Salford studio fronting a trailer (airing just now on BBC1) highlighting what is coming up on BBC Sport over the weekend. Usually they're just done by continuity.

All this using the BBC Sport graphics to highlight what's coming up rather than the new style rebrand graphics as seen on the FA Cup trailers.

Talking presentation no news yet who is anchoring the two BBC FA Cup matches, with only confirmation that Manish Bhasin will continue fronting the Sunday night highlights show. Mark Pougatch is hosting three of the four matches live on ITV and ITV4, with Seema Jaswal doing the other one. No ITV highlights show by the looks of it - I'd actually of thought there might be value in letting the BBC handle them at the weekend but doing a wrap up on Monday night or even Tuesday evening of the entire round.

I imagine she is becoming freelance when until now she has been a BBC employee. Most if not all BBC sport commentators and presenters are freelance.

I've seen them for years. You often see them holding, what seems strange to me, the Autocue remote prompt. I think I've seen Mike Bushell do one which I find really strange.

I admittedly don't watch BBC1 live that much in the week and only caught it by chance tonight when setting up recordings for later, so surprising I've never seen them before.

Confirmed via graphic at half time that Jason Mohammad will present live coverage on Sunday on BBC Two.

Not often BBC Two has a triple bill of live matches as they do on Sunday, great to see.
In fact 8.5 consecutive hours of sport on BBC Two on Sunday and 5.5 consecutive hours on ITV then ITV4, a real blockbuster day of FTA sport!

ITV pretty much have action from early afternoon till after midnight tomorrow too. C4 have the only free to air rugby of the weekend with Ireland v Japan kicking off at 1pm, the same time as Italy v NZ on Amazon. Next week it's the Scotland and Italy fixtures at the same time, both on Amazon.


Even with the Olympics and Euros we must be close to a record number of weekends without live sport on a Saturday afternoon on BBC1. It certainly feels like it's switched from the occassional afternoon with the usual daytime filler to the occassional afternoon without it and of course losing the Autumn Internationals, plus the lack of a multi-week rugby league tournament this year, really does highlight that. As you say though Sunday is packed with womens football and rugby and then an FA Cup match followed by highlights.

Yep, excluding half an hour of River Monsters at 16:00, itv4 and then itv have live horse racing/FA Cup from 13:00 until 01:00.

It has certainly less and less each year sadly, some sports only being shown online or on BBC Two occasionaly as well. This autumn there's live sport on BBC One on Saturdays almost every other week with the international rugby league a fortnight ago plus the WSL during the men's international breaks. Next Saturday's WSL and then the UK Championship snooker probably the only live sport on BBC One on Saturday afternoon between now and Christmas probably.

Your correction above has reminded me that the Aussie football (ie soccer) leagues have rebranded: the W-League is now A-League Women, and for parity what was the A-League is now A-League Men. Or to give it its full title, Izuzu UTE A-League Men.

Yes it is sad considering growing up BBC one was basically none stop for me on a Saturday with the occasional few hours of ITV. Saturday afternoon was Grandstand and if they didn’t have much live sport they always managed to fill it with it something even if it was highlights of something from the previous weekend.

I don’t know why they don’t just show Final Score for the full afternoon instead of daytime repeats. It would make more sense and it there anyway which could free the red button up for something else

Not sure if this reflected on the linear channel, but online at least the Channel 4 DOG has not moved from the top left corner meaning it covers the score graphic in the Ireland v. Japan rugby. Thankfully only covering the 'IRE' country code rather than the score or clock.

EDIT: By 25 mins the DOG has vanished completely.

RTE’s DOG is in the top right corner, so not a problem for them. Those Autumn Nations Series graphics are not growing on me though, if anything they look more and more garish the more I see of them. As with the URC recently RTE using their own graphics for studio segments and their own titles and music (alas, no one has thought fit to bring back “Fighting 17th”).
