I think that response is a little unfair, considering not everyone works in telly and it’s not unreasonable for someone to ask the question considering the effects that incident are still making an impact in various different ways.
And the fact BT Sport WAS among the channels affected! The ad break failure sure does sound related.
The loss of pictures was most likely due to “rain fade” of the satellite downlink in London.
The satellite downlinks for BT Sport are not in London, but further north.
Not seen it mentioned yet, but there's a few reports that DAZN are in advanced talks to buy BT Sport.
I can't help but wonder - would sporting rights holders have included "must be on linear broadcast channels" in rights deals? And could that be a reason for DAZN wanting to have mainstream channels in the UK?
Or could this mean BT Sport dropping linear and going online-only?.... I can't imagine so, but.

DAZN do have linear channels on Movistar+ in Spain and on (pay) DTT in Italy. So its not without precedent that DAZN could have linear channels on Sky and cable. They also have a linear channel on Sky Germany for commercial premises.
I do recall when BT Sport first won the FAPL rights in 2012, there were concerns that they would be delivered in a non-linear fashion and/or not be available for wholesale, and the Premier League moved quickly to say at that point that they would want the matches available on traditional broadcast platforms. But that was nearly a decade ago when times were different and quite clearly the FAPL have no longer that issue when they have sold a rights package to Amazon who deliver it (to domestic customers) via streaming only. I can’t imagine it would be an issue for anyone else at this stage either.
Are there any stats on the percentage of BT Sport subscribers who watch via Sky or Cable. Of course those watching via BT TV have been watching via online streams for years, just neatly packaged up in more traditional multi-channel equipment. Personally I ditched the box to just use the app a couple of years ago in order to ditch both the BT TV subscription and additional HD fees which seemed pointless when via the app the streams are in HD by default.
The biggest issue is that streaming is still quite a few seconds behind the live feed. If people get score alerts or see on Twitter that goals have been scored before they see it it tends to make streaming look a poorer option.
I imagine quite a few people still watch BT TV through set top box’s particularly older people who are less likely to stream things.

As you alluded to in your post, Amazon broadcast their PL matches on satellite for commercial customers, making use of BT's capacity to do so. I can't see it being too popular (with the public or the PL) if BT's 50-odd matches became harder to watch in pubs. And if they're on satellite for pubs, does it make sense to not sell subs to the public too?
Just thinking aloud about some of BT's existing agreements - if the deal goes ahead, could we see DAZN producing Amazon's Premier League matches? Or DAZN ESPN?

Yes, I can't imagine it going streaming only - if they're going to buy some linear channels, presumably they think there's some benefit in having them.
Of course, Sky were taken over a few years ago but it made no difference to anything they did on air.

Yeah. Pubs would be very aggrieved in the picture and sound quality of the matches became worse due to issues with the streaming. Not all pubs are in areas with the best wifi. BT’s matches are a lot more numerous than Amazon’s and include a lot more hyped matches that bring in the punters.
Absolutely, I did put the “(for domestic customers)” in for a reason! Of course a traditional broadcast (let’s face it, the Sky platform) is still the best mode of delivery for commercial customers. Amazon wouldn’t be doing it otherwise. It isn’t even necessarily about the picture and sound - what is really important for commercial customers is that if they have multiple TVs - and my relatively average sized local has six of them - that they are all in sync, that customers in one area of the pub don’t see a goal before those in other parts. I know there are solutions for this, but Sky offers a ready to go solution that - I know this is possibly more true for Ireland than the U.K. - is in virtually all pubs who have any sort of business with sports fans. (In Ireland I could probably have stopped with “virtually all pubs” - I know of only a small number who don’t have Sky and those ones are either Wetherspoons or don’t have a tv at all).
With a DAZN-BT combo, I don’t think we’ll necessarily though see that it’ll be a simple rebrand of the current BT business - I think DAZN is primarily a direct to customer proposition and the part direct part wholesale model might not survive. In particular I don’t see that DAZN will continue the model BT have chosen in Ireland (which I honestly didn’t expect would last for as long as it has) of operating through one provider who has the ability to sub license wholesale rights to other providers (currently Sky, previously eir and before that Setanta)..
Rather odd for beIN Sports in France to use Sky Sports graphics in English for tonight's match despite it featuring a French team and was played in the South of France. I guess with it being a play-off semi-final Sky would have priority in producing coverage perhaps...?
