I don't think it is pointless. Whisper are presumably contracted to produce it, and one would assume that C4 would not be allowed to place the full race coverage on All4, whereas they can put the normal highlights show on All4.
The precedent for this is the Cricket World Cup in 2019. C4 were showing highlights throughout the tournament, using their own production team and presenter (heavily linked with the ICC's host broadcast operation but nothing whatsoever to do with Sky) and then they did the deal to show Sky's live coverage of the final (which utilised ICC commentary but they did broadcast Sky's whole programme without any of their own wraparound or use of the ICC wraparound). They still showed the scheduled highlights programme produced by the existing team, and this went on All4 whereas the live coverage did not.

Man United being on BBC will suit the significant Irish viewership who, as it stands, many of which will have no access to the ITV side of the tv picks. Since the folding of eir Sport there’s no longer any ROI rights holder for the FA Cup which is unfortunate. You’d think this is the sort of rights Premier Sports would be interested in picking up but they haven’t yet.
ITV have the 4th round draw live on the Sunday.
To be fair, it’s only ITV that have to adhere to their brand guidelines, and it’s useful way here of making the distinction when games are also on ITV 4.
Although, saying that it seems there aren’t any games on ITV 4 at this stage.
I am not sure ITV4 will have any more FA Cup games after the one upcoming replay. I think all future matches will be on ITV(1) even replays.
Brighton v Spurs has been postponed.
Liverpool v Shrewsbury and Chelsea v Chesterfield a couple of the big PL v EFL clashes overlooked, though might have been a different story if the PL teams were away. Both though I'd have thought would have wider appeal than the fixtures chosen for the Saturday.

Can understand why it is seen in bad taste but I suspect it is just a case of taking a noteable moment from the year to use in the Christmas ident. I assume that is what they've done with other sports aswell.

All they did is take their existing idents but change the tagline to Merry Christmas. That ident has been running since the crash happened.
EDIT: I'm wrong. But that has been the defence people have been using online.
