Back on the 3pm football TV coverage blackout, and another article on it:

It may get changed, but at the moment it refers to a UK blackout, when technically it is England only (no real difference though), but, more importantly, they refer to it being "enshrined in British law" - it is a UEFA regulation, and far from a legal requirement.

I'm not sure if it'll be a regular slot for it and of course it was an international weekened last week but worth noting the womens football game on the BBC did cross that threshold, though I'm guessing the blackout may not actually cover womens football.

The blackout doesn't apply on International breaks as there's not enough games (nil!) being played at 3pm.

Although, I think it simply doesn’t apply to international breaks, regardless of the fact that there isn’t enough games in the relevant leagues.

The blackout window specifically don't include the international breaks - they're listed on this page.

It has just been announced that BBC TV will be showing highlights of Emma raducanu's semi final win and highlights of the final.

"There is no planned live network TV coverage in the UK" quite an interesting comment to make in a news article. An entirely valid statement, but interesting that it's explicitly stated.

Arguably it’s easier for people to access the match on Amazon than it would have been if it was exclusively on Sky. A one month Sky sports subscription is more expensive than a one month Amazon Prime one and also Amazon still seem to be offering a 30 day free trial for those who have never subscribed before.

Amazon Prime membership must be pretty widespread now, though suspect not everyone realises the streaming service comes with it for free. Is some talk today they'll make it available for free anyway.

Don't think anyone has any serious grounds to criticise Amazon. Despite the shaky start, I suspect Prime Video has done a lot of good for the profile of tennis in the UK (quick search suggests 8 million households). And it's cheaper than the (regular price of) NowTV, for example. They've sold a highlights package to the BBC and it's free live on the radio. If there were no free to air radio rights, perhaps it would be more of a problem.

Availability of fibre broadband is maybe still a thing, but frankly anyone still without a decent internet connection likely has greater inconveniences than being able to watch the tennis.

It'll be good news if this argument happens again though, as it'll mean Raducanu has reached the final of something else…
