Could well be as they're also on screen for every shot not just the above table shot. Although the replays are graphic free so maybe not. I'm pretty sure the BBC could access a clean feed though, unless there was a contractual reason the graphic had to be shown, which there can't be as they're not.

They're not, as when the graphics "disappear" at end of frame, there is no logos to be found at all. Its just a bad design.

It should be noted that this isn't the first time that the BBC have used the UK Championship as their basis of changing the graphics. Back when they moved to this yellow, white and blue design, the "in play" player was denoted with a tiny 5px wide vertlcal bar. That was very quickly reverted within about 2 days to regular arrows when it was impossible to spot.

I hope they revert this design. The black bar makes it look like the camera images stop at the scoreboard, makling it look like they're filling an "empty" slot [when obviously the image doesn't stop at the scoreboard] and the wideness is very distracting due to the scoreboard being there the whole time. Its just not a great look and most people are pretty negative to this change on both social media and on reddit.

From this clip on Eurosport it seems the unnecessary junk from the Home Nations series is carried over with the WST logo bottom right and the more needless "Triple Crown Series" bottom left, so presumably no clean feed provided to the BBC and they feel covering it all is the better option.

P.S. Not so much broadcast related but hate the staging Cazoo use for their sponsored events - the light grey just looks awful here and it did on the darts when they sponsored a recent event too.

First round is covered exclusively by Eurosport [since last year], its not broadcast in any way by the BBC.

Since Eurosport and WST have a long running agreement to broadcast virtually anything that ITV/BBC don't have (see https://wst.tv/eurosport-10-year-agreement/ for more info), Eurosport would probably just allow WST to do whatever with the graphics and may even be giving WST advice on how to run all the production in-house, hence all the WST/TCS logos through the first round.

Reason I think this is because none of the ITV events have so far used the WST branding: that being said WST have a separate feed that they use because the British Open clips on WST's channel were all non-ITV broadcast versions (red scoreboard, WST logo in bottom left).

All in all, I think BBC just decided to create a bad graphics package to see what people thought. Hopefully they revert, given the bad scoreboard design is taken [by default] by every other broadcaster [due to the BBC becoming the host broadcaster and thus producing the only feed others are able to use], so lots of people would see it and thus give opinions about it as well.

I don’t think that’s the case though, because Eurosport appearing to be taking the BBC feed from today. So presumably it’s literally them producing the world feed. And of course it wouldn’t explain why the dogs aren’t there when the graphics are removed for the replays.

The black bit below the scorebar is semi transparent. Watching John Higgins playing, and you can see the white of his shirt underneath the black bar, so it's not hiding anything graphics wise.

The World Cup every two years took a step forward today with all African federations pledging to vote for it. Looking pretty likely they will be passed by FIFA members. They might then get axed through because Many or all UEFA members decide to boycott them.

As with many people who have been cancelled or sidelined, Michael Vaughan had an in-depth interview on BBC Breakfast this morning. Amongst the main takeaways is a non-apology of sorts to Rafiq (still denies he said what is alleged to have said) and regret for tweets that have been circling around which were questionable.

Also believed the COMNEBOL (South America) is against. I won't put past FIFA being so inside their own bubble that they'll carry on regardless, but a World Cup without the two continents that have provided every finalist and all but two semi-finalists ever would be hillarious.


Sticking with COMNEBOL, and the BBC iPlayer stream of the Copa Libertadores final is, like last year, using their own commentators in Conor McNamara and Leon Osman. Little issue on the BBC iPlayer navigation though...

Would be an absolute disaster - not just for football but sport in general. It's the rarity of such events which make them special.

The transparency was added after a lot of complaints via social media. In the afternoon session, the black bar was fully opaque and you could not see anything through it. The transparency doesn't really solve the issue that the black bar is useless and achieves very little to improving the coverage, it just gets in the way: old scoreboard that was only sat in between the bottom corner pockets on the table was pretty good. If they'd widened that version to include flags in the space that was left, i doubt anyone would have noticed or minded.

Second day in the row more than one paper puts an article about pressure on the BBC to reinstate Michael Vaughan on the back page, Going to be a one of those issues the BBC can’t win with - reinstatement will be very very controversial but equally not reinstating will become an issue.

And if they did said papers would put an article along the lines of "Backlash as BBC reinstate Michael Vaughan". His interview this morning contained nothing he hadn't said before - insisting he'd never been racist and the classic apology if you were offended line. There should always be a path for redemption but if you don't take it at the very beginning it's very difficult to get back on it.


I suspect Omricon may provide a convenient get out for Vaughan and Fox Sports. Considering how Australia have reacted so far I'd be surprised if they didn't make things significantly more difficult in the days ahead for people wanting to get into the country.

To be honest, it never would have occured to me in 100 years that the final F1 race of the season would be shown FTA so no surprise what Sky's take on the suggestion is

I am surprised he is not already in Australia. The Ashes start on the 8th.
I can’t see Fox Sports dropping him for the comments because it might well be more controversial (in Australia at least) to sack him than keep him.
