Colin Brazier having what seemed like an on air dig at GB News' camera operators just now with the next team of presenters coming up. The fact they all found it quite funny seemed rather telling.
I suspect ratings will hold up pretty well for the first week until people have seen everything the channel has to offer/the novelty has worn off. We'll then get a clearer picture of how many people consider a news channel with no news to be the news channel for them.

I knew I'd seen something like it before, I just couldn't remember the name. (Thanks!)
The difference was they literally had
no content though - I'm sure in the early days (before it "diversified" into wrestling and gambling) they attempted a paper review in the mornings, and you had to pay 50p to send a text.

I
REALLY hate the way the studio looks like, especially how dark the background is, as seen in the image above.
They could have just built a proper news set
(eg. video wall, proper studio lightning, a real news set etc.) instead of this house-like studio.
The guests' name strap appeared as:
JED
Teenager

Agreed. This type of format either needs a constant stream of guests/commentators and/or phone-in callers to work.
I was put in mind of Friendly TV this morning, watching two presenters with next to no content just filling time.
Similarly Dan barking at the panel of three last night reminded me a bit of Nicola McLean's Looser Women on Loaded TV back when that was somehow a thing.
There are parts of the studio we are not seeing. I think there is an area where screens were going on the wall, presumably it isn't finished.
Have Brazier and De Piero been told to let their natural Yorkshire accents come out in their delivery as I don't remember them being this strong when they worked elsewhere?

Quite weird, but the ads for some reason are not in full screen, with a large background border on all 4 sides...
It looks like
the concept of squeezebacks is just getting introduced to UK viewers. A lot of that has been happening stateside. Granted sometimes the ads are shown in full-screen, but that's only because it's inserted by the TV provider, or if the advertiser is not comfortable enough with the idea.
But the problem is that some may find it distracting. If it was up to me, ticker would be removed, the ads will still be scaled back, and there'll be a "we'll-be-back-in" countdown clock at the top of the screen. But then again, an average viewer can get headlines anytime without having to wait for broadcast to return, or an "ongoing" (those who've been watching until then) can read the ticker if they don't find the ads interesting.
Also, some have asked how the ads were not shown in full-screen. Basically that would be insulting to advertisers, and even if not, (highly unlikely but still) some may confuse or think it's (part of) the main content.
For example, here's CNBC/US also having to reduce picture size of the ad (but even worse because there's no background):
And then there's this...
jacobmorton post_id=19631 time= user_id=1065 Wrote:Even a short check of the headlines would be good every half hour, pre-launch I thought that that would be the format with Rosie Wright being the newsreader.
Look, I've made this point before on the "prelaunch" thread. AN even admitted that there'd be no bulletins - so obviously not even headline roundups - and in turn admitting that BBC/Sky/whatnot have done all the heavylifting for the channel. We've always taken Fox, Sky-AU and CNEWS as examples of the format, but I've to say they all do some form of recaps or hours-long news shows. As a conclusion, the whole channel is just an online forum, teevee style.
Watching this morning, some of the topics were far too repetitive. And for a channel that are proud of Britain and considering I thought they were gonna go gun blazing about England winning yesterday, I heard more times about whether it was right to take the knee than the win for them which felt like it ruined the occasion.
I must say however that the format of DePiero & Halligan looks more promising. I do like that there were speaking to ordinary people for several minutes rather than vox pop in a certain area. Makes the show feel more warm and have a community feel to it.
This seems to be the best show and partnership so far.

Do you think he had a say in it? If so could he tell how unprepared they were from France?
It does make me wonder how the presenters like Simon McCoy and Colin Brazier who left comfortable secure jobs at established broadcasters feel about how it's going. It's on air people like them who'll be the first ones to start rocking the boat in a few weeks if things don't improve
Just catching up on the Great British breakfast and I think Nana Akua came across very will and quite likeable. Colin and Mercy seem to have no chemistry and it seems like a random partnership. I’m enjoying Depiero & Halligan so far but I do agree with some other posters that it has been a bit repetitive.

Maybe the monitor brightness in the gallery is ramped up to the max so they can't see just how dark some of the output is, even on a live hit.
Either that or no one has explained Iris and Gain to the camera person.
Surely issues like this should be picked up by the Director or technical assistant in the gallery BEFORE putting the OB to air, so begs the question why did they put the hit out in the first place and not just delay it.
There's been so many technical problems, it makes the BBC News channel's camera bloopers seem rather trivial.
Didn't they say they are using "pilots" to direct their shows, rather than "directors", which rightly or wrongly kind of raised a red flag to me that suggests they basically couldn't afford the going rate for directors so are using a different term to pay less experienced people to do the same job.

Welcome to GB News = 262,000 (1.7%)
- peaking with 336,000 a few minutes in
Tonight Live With Dan Wootton = 152,000 (1.3%)
- peak of 282,000 (1.8%) at 9.59pm.
(For reference but not exactly showing a lot, as GB News would've spiked interesting)
9pm till Midnight: BBC News = 139,000 (1.2%) & Sky News = 71,000 (0.6%).
Obviously skewed by the launch last night and it is only one night but does BBC News nowadays often beat Sky News basically 2:1, or can we infer they might be picking up more viewers from Sky than from the BBC?
It's important to remember it's a new team and they won't be close or know each other. It's a bit like a new tv series, if you go back to the start the characters don't gel as well together but try to do their best. Hopefully they warm to each other as time goes on.
