Watching Colin and Mercy and I don't know if it's the angle of the shot or the fact that I have never taken any notice before but it would appear that they are in a basement or a lower ground floor. Just over the control room, there are windows where you can see the feet of people walking by. Just a random thought, not related to anything!

Why keep comparing to Sky News and BBC News??
GBN isn’t a rolling news channel. It isn’t offering the same service as Sky News and BBC News and therefore will attract those who want topical discussion rather than rolling news.
GBN is infotainment and not rolling news or news bulletins.
GBN is constant opinion and discussion about news stories that people will have found out about through other companies. It’s more like a rolling Loose Women or Sky Papers type of programming.
Also there was football on last night, albeit not any of the home nations. So I imagine the numbers were down across all “news” channels vs. a normal evening.

Because they're targeting the same audience? BBC News and Sky News both offer topical discussion, and I expect many of their viewers want more than rolling news.
If it was reported that GB News was way behind Sky and BBC News, would these same excuses about it not being a normal evening, and that GB News isn't even a news channel so shouldn't be compared, be still happening?
Or would they being picked up and run with?
GB News is behind Sky and BBC most of the day though. What's GB News' excuse for that? They can trumpet that Andrew Neil beats sky and the BBC, but what about pretty much everything else which falls behind?
I don’t work for Sky or BBC, but I’d guess they aren’t feeling as threatened by GBN as Andrew Neil would seemingly like to think.
When you think that the BBC Breakfast simulcast on the news channel gets more than GB News, it really does tell you something.
Who knew that the benchmark of success for this channel would be beating the BBC News Channel and Sky News across all time slots. Anything less is a massive fail and shouldn’t be tweeted about.
Sorry but I think the goal posts are being moved quite considerably here.

You're just as guilty of moving the goalposts. Winning the time slot for one hour a day but losing at all other times is hardly a roaring success either.

That there are tens of thousands of deaf people who use British Sign Language as their first language and some would like to watch the news in their first language? It's not necessarily the reason but it's important.
Oh yes, I forgot about the signing on the news channel.

I’m sorry but other news channels is the only thing it can really be compared against to gauge it’s success. It’s like saying you can’t compare BBC Breakfast and GMBs ratings.
Especially as the whole idea was to bring something new to the broadcast news market.
Whether you think what they’re doing is less worthy or not is irrelevant.

GMB and Breakfast are offering the same service though. If the Big Breakfast was still about and offering something entirely different it wouldn't be fair to compare GMB and Breakfast to the Big Breakfast. Comparisons to two news channels (Sky and BBC) are fine but comparing GBNews isn't. They're entirely different services.
It's been over a week now and I have been watching GB News a lot to get a sense of what it was like, over the first week and on and off over in the last few days. Also commenting on here. Just putting my option across as a person who is a forum member and a supporter of the idea of a GBN type channel. It is a bit long so if you don't want to read it all, basically I think the channel is going to fail. Sure others have come to that conclusion, but as someone who was in support of it strongly, I also now admit it.
I don't really like all of the criticism aimed at the channel by people who don't want it to last. Some very unfair or unrealistic comparisons or criticism on here which I thought was a bit silly. Of course if the channel had multiple technical issues it is of note and should not be ignored. Nor can the content issues be ignored. I am not saying that, but let's just be adults. Peak state of this was when it was claimed in this thread a presenter moving on from a sad story by saying something like "on to the real news of the day" was an outrage. Totally ridiculous. We should all be sensible and most of the time we all have been. I am happy it has calmed down.
That aside however I think generally the major issue with the channel, as many have said, is that it does not really have news. As mentioned previously I have to go to Sky or BBC to see the news. As such I do not see the channel lasting sadly in the long run, as someone who wanted it to work, they have failed with one of the major points of the channel which is to tell the viewer what the news is. If they wanted to be the channel with debates etc, they really need a lot more of an offering. Bigger and more powerful sets, systems etc, guests! As I say, very sad for me because I wanted the channel to be a success, but my gut feeling says they have missed the target and undershot. Whatever the reason, not enough money, the wrong decisions at the top, who knows. That's just my opinion, I am no expert but the channel is supposed to be targeting my group, and I don't really find it that interesting without some substance of news and lack of seriousness. Watching the same people day after day gets boring very quickly, especially when there is no real substance. It is just people talking about stuff. It is not serious at all and doesn't seem to be trying to get something or do anything. Just blowing in the wind.
The first alarm bell was when they published photos of the presenters in casual wear sitting on a sofa pre launch. I know it was never meant to be BBC or Sky News, but what it is now is a channel with little substance and you get the feeling they only got half way there to where they were trying to go. Maybe someone will come along with a load of money and allow them to achieve their dream. Currently it isn't working in my view. If I was in charge, I would introduce a proper news offering, get in a few more serious presenters, have a proper news set and with desk etc. I can easily write off the technical issues, but the substance is terrible. If they act now the channel can be saved, if not it is going to fail and the fact that we keep getting presenters as guests etc is a sign all is not well. People are not taking the channel seriously and they have good reason to feel that way. Why should they when the channel cannot even do news or tackle anything in a serious manner? I hope those in control start to run the channel properly. We are out of the launch phase now and things are entering reality.

Back in the day the three breakfast shows were compared, as they were chasing the same audience. Like GB News, The Big Breakfast was launched to offer an alternative.
Clearly if GB News did proper news, it'd cost them more money than what they're providing now. But they could get those regional reporters to spend the day compiling reports instead of sending them on pointless lives to pubs. A 2/3 minute report is more substantial than sending them to do the pointless Nationwide feature every hour.
The only 'bulletin' with any form of structure is the McCoy & Phillips one which has the Simon's Good News and The Alex Agenda features, but all the shows feature too many contributors and a rolling wheel of topics which repeat through the day, similar to LBC and talkRADIO but without the polish they have in producing the shows.
They could do with a left-wing or centrist voice as well, LBC do a great job of balancing opinion by using James O'Brien to provide an alternative to what is otherwise a right-wing led schedule and it shows in their Rajar too. It also makes LBC less of an echo chamber for one side or the other.
However I think the GMTV style shows are in the right direction, but they simply need more structure. Conversational news discussion is a USP against the BBC and Sky, but it clearly needs more investment to make it work.
