Sexual chemistry, 2021 style?
They just managed to spell Simon Weston’s name wrong.

Edit: now corrected.

Maybe the monitor brightness in the gallery is ramped up to the max so they can't see just how dark some of the output is, even on a live hit.

Either that or no one has explained Iris and Gain to the camera person.

Surely issues like this should be picked up by the Director or technical assistant in the gallery BEFORE putting the OB to air, so begs the question why did they put the hit out in the first place and not just delay it.

There's been so many technical problems, it makes the BBC News channel's camera bloopers seem rather trivial.

It's a shame as I'd probably class myself as falling in the category Andrew Neil talked about in his opening piece. Dan Wooton's opening show seemed to follow a completely different editorial agenda - so my question is who's actually overseeing editorial control of the output?

I'm certainly not going to go along the lines of some people willing it on to fail. There's some good people involved in the channel, McCoy, Stewart, Brazier etc and of course the behind the scenes staff who have bills to pay.

My monologue: 'I was expecting this channel to be a breath of fresh air, but it seems to be blowing a lot of hot air because of the apparent lack of proper air conditioning. The news agenda is usually pretty morbid and dark, so we haven't bothered adding any decent lighting to the set - we represent you. We won't silence you unless a mic fails or a fader is down and if we're a bit dull on your screen, you've got a brightness control on your remote'.

Let's hope the technical, lighting and sound issues can be resolved as you kind of need all 3 for television to work.

But they do. They effect us all, how you react to them places you in the GB spear or not. Most people in the spear are going to be working class, but not exclusively.
OK... but that's different to your original post which said they don't affect the audience GB News is trying to attract.

I don't see how.

Quote:It is appealing to the working class, mainly leave type voters although now that is over with, I'd say just working classes. They/we are everywhere so I think they can do that. It's not only exclusively, working classes, but mainly. I'd say it will expand as it goes on. A lot of "woke" issues don't just effect the working classes.

Perhaps their equipment isn't calibrated correctly. It would explain why to us it seems dark but to them it may seem fine. Although surely someone would tell them. It isn't as dark on my Freeveiw feed but I have the brightness on full.

I note the channel is already generating headlines.

Perhaps the media will now feed off each other, left wing rags makes news article about GB News, GB news complains about left wing rag, and around and around they go. Generates headlines and views.

Nevermind, I missed the "just" out of your final sentence.

Andrew Neil's opening talked of (and I paraphrase) being there to give a voice to a section of society that doesn't have one (and from his pre launch comments it's clear which section he refers to).

Kirsty Gallagher is talking this morning of being the station for the whole of the UK.

Surely it can't be both?

It is appealing to the working class, mainly leave type voters although now that is over with, I'd say just working classes. They/we are everywhere so I think they can do that. I thought it was telling yesterday evening, a person made the comment that GB News had a left wing guest on that was being shouted down. I don't deny it, but I also ask you to consider that the same situation is common place on BBC and Sky but the other way around, especially on shows like Question Time. I am not saying it is deliberate, but it does occur on some occasions.

I think this is probably the best summing up of the target audience. And it's a fair point about the guest, who I did feel a bit sorry for as he had "lamb to the slaughter" written all over him, he was a bit pincered to be fair. But as you say it does happen to right-of-centre guests too.

Main takeaway is where's the news? There's a lot of opinion, but it's not somewhere I can get my news from as there isn't a lot of it.
Aren't the regional reports solo, so setting up/checking their own equipment?

There is a growing trend of finding some small example and claiming it represents a whole group of people. This could be one individual who got in trouble for not being 'woke' at work, or could be local press claiming huge public backlash to a council decision based off a couple of random tweeters with 3 followers.

Always be sceptical of any news organisation which uses isolated, tiny examples to claim a larger trend is happening across the country.

I take your point. Personally, I detest Twitter because it's so uncivil and so impolite but I guess the combination of keyboard warriors and a 280-character maximum force that.

However, as an observer, certain "pressure groups" have an ability to sway the agenda in the outside world a lot better than others. They're very organised and very articulate in their fury.

What's interesting in the papers this morning is how GB News is been lauded as a success on Twitter according to the Daily Mail but, when you log in yourself and have a look at it, all the comments are from the permanently-offended about Andrew Neil living in France, foreign financial backing for the channel, and other such "issues".
The tweets you're seeing are tailored to the accounts you follow and tweets you normally engage with so that's why you're seeing so many of those comments. I've seen a hell of a lot of tweets from people ardently supporting it and saying how excellent it's been despite the channel being unwatchable so far.

I wonder why they had to get it on air now, what was the rush? What was the time pressure? It's not like they've started the channel just ahead of a particularly key news date. As has previously been said this channel needed weeks more rehearsals. We're not watching 'teething problems', that's when a few cues are missed, a few lights are off, a few straps are incorrectly triggered, all easily fixable stuff. We're watching an underprepared, underrehearsed team continuously broadcast very low quality output, both technically and in terms of content, from a very oddly designed studio. I had to turn my TV volume up to 65 during every VT last night, normally it's at 20. I'm genuinely surprised Andrew has allowed it to go on air in this state.
I really don't think the problems are with the regional journalists. There's just something very wrong in the studio.

I feel sorry for the reporters actually, it's a pity we can't watch their stuff online on YouTube etc., as it was originally shot.

Yes I have to admit I at least expected headlines. So far it is just talking apart from the ticker. Maybe it will come later. But god the audio issues.
I think it would be benefited by some form of proper news summary maybe not at the TOTH or half past but maybe at quarter past or five to the hour. It would just help punctuate the hour and provide some context to their conversations.

The suggestion their equipment isn't calibrated properly is worrying. An amateurish mistake.
That is one of the 1st tasks I would complete when purchasing new equipment. It seems incomprehensible that a TV channel would omit this?

I’m sure it’s not the case they haven’t calibrated the equipment. Perhaps it looked alright on their screens in the gallery but obviously only realised something wasn’t right when being broadcast.

I notice it’s back out of sync on TV again, but the web stream seems ok.
The presenters have just spent 10 minutes discussing between themselves about ‘taking the knee’ without any input from guests. Seems really odd and quite dull.
