It looked like, had they been broadcast as intended, they had attempted to do some fancy vignettes and add a softer film look to at least some of those reporter clips. The use of the out-takes didn't really work though.
It got better as the night went on. The concept is great, and YES - they will run things that some people do not want to see or hear. But you aren't forced to watch it, or even pay for it. A lot of people on here had already decided they didn't like it back on the several closed threads on the blue place and very little would have changed that in the eyes of certain posters.
The content was strong and there's absolutely a market for it, but the technicals let it down.

Absolutely right, nothing from the G7, nothing about England winning - other than a very poor and clearly ripped from iPlayer clip of the goal during the paper review.
Speaking about the paper review, it didn't seem to stick to any schedule, just a hit of ten minutes here and there between 10 and midnight. Very odd.

The issue GB News has which will be hard (if not impossible) for them to overcome is that the overwhelming majority of people who've heard of it have already made their mind up about it. The people who think it's the 2nd coming of news channels will defend it to the hills because they think it can do no wrong. By contrast, those who think it's the worst thing that's happened since sliced bread will seize on every opportunity possible to criticise it because they think it can do nothing right.
When the two main views about your product are at the extreme ends of the spectrum, you're already fighting an uphill battle

That's absolutely right.
I went into today's launch with an open mind and looked at it more for it's technical ability and journalistic integrity.
So far the jury remains out on both....
I managed to dip in & out of the channel this evening and have just watched the re-run of the welcome programme from midnight. Totally agree with the comments here so far about the technicals, hopefully it can be sorted ASAP. I'll be more interested in seeing how the studio looks during the day with the natural light from the windows. The darkness & the reflection was giving me early Daybreak vibes!
I liked Alastair Stewart the most on the welcome show, he managed to add some real energy to his small segment. He's the total opposite to Andrew Neil's style - but then again I was never a huge fan of his on the BBC.
With some of the poor camera & lighting work this evening -- almost feels like the DAB feed of this could actually work quite well. The fact the evening show seemed like a LBC/TalkRadio style will obviously help it translate well. Although, how will it sound? Obvious they're not talking into radio mics in a soundproofed room.
I get they're not doing news bulletins but the stuff discussed tonight wasn't even really agenda setting? The weather bulletin was a bit like random filler? No set time for it popping up & it was a bit long winded for me...
Early days though & I look forward to dipping in tomorrow!
Also - odd to see no subtitles available? Certainly not on the Freeview TV I was watching on?

I was expecting the countdown to fade to some form of animated programme intro, followed by a wide swooping shot of a very modern and expensive studio set-up....

I wasn't watching the channel as such as it launched earlier tonight. I nearly forgot that this channel was launching tonight as I was mostly reading the comments here on how it went on through the night while watching the Euros in-between.
From that opening launch clip that I have seen so far; it wasn't a perfect start as we have seen it to date. The layout of the studio, as I saw from here earlier this week, feels so abnormal to the standard of what you get from an established news channel. I really don't understand the purpose of it when any of the viewers get to watch it on TV.
The graphics don't look that great either. It's a very poor effort so far. The "WELCOME TO GB NEWS" strap on the lower thirds looks far too big for the casual viewer to read. Even when you look at that opening show from Dan Wootton; there is no proper context being given from the headline strap to understand what the story is about. It felt lost out there among the wilderness to the casual viewers eye.
I do wonder if they're going to regret putting the word "news" in the title? It seems to be setting themselves up for a fall with the Ofcom Programme Code.

Anything with Angelos Frangopulos name too it looks trash graphically and visually he’s such a tight arse spending money. I wouldn’t put it past him having made those graphics himself and rigged up that set in his own garage then bought it in bit by bit himself
I'm interested to see their Breakfast show this morning. I wonder how much of the downtime since midnight (just broadcasting repeats) will have been spent tackling some of the technical problems they experienced at launch.
