I think - now this is just a hunch - but I think the newspapers just want an excuse to bash GBN so are publishing conflicting articles on their own judgements on Neil's absence. They clearly don't know what's happening as one day he's resigned/resigning and the next he's eager to return.

I think Paul has a lot of potential. He just needs to be ever-so-slightly less wooden (like just a little bit, it’s not too much of a problem) and more natural.
Another dismal set of figures for Friday - a big news day with the fallout from the Plymouth shootings and the escalating crisis in Afghanistan, with GBN unable to do either story properly:

1200 - DiPiero and Halligan - 6k
1600 - The Afternoon Agenda - 15k
BBC NC had at least 100k viewers through the day, peaking at 218k at 1700; Sky also comfortably beat GBN in all dayparts.
Mark Dolan is one of the better hosts on GB News, but he can be quite obsequious in his interviewing. We all respect Esther Rantzen of course, but he was so fawning just now it was on the verge of being unwatchable. Even Esther looked a bit embarrassed.

If this pattern continues, both daytime shows aren't working while Breakfast which has moved Simon McCoy across and Alex Phillips shows are maintaining their small audiences, but even those aren't good enough.
Patrick Christys does seem to producing some content that works relatively well on YouTube. I’m just not sure there is enough audience in the daytime for them. So leaving Christys there to make social media content might be the wisest thing to do.
DePeiro and Halligan don’t really offer anything in that regard though.
Worth noting that De Piero and Halligan have both been off this week, so stand-ins were presenting.
