The politicians presenting news programmes thing feels a bit weird - even weirder with two from the same party! I'm not sure what editorial justification GB News' producers would use; unless, of course, they are saying it is not a news programme?
Yes, they could argue that it’s a ‘discussion’ show, or they could also argue that they’re ‘presenters’, not ‘newsreaders’.

Good points - although even if it is argued they aren't a "newsreader", they would almost certainly still be an "interviewer" unless someone else conducted all the interviews or chats!

Surely when they’ve had sitting politicians presenting on LBC, they’ve been interviewing at times. So is it just the case that no one has been bothered enough to complain?
Although I wouldn’t class them as ‘newsreaders’ in the truest sense of the word, they are surly reading news style scripts before going into an interview and they’re doing that on a channel called ‘GB News’. I’m not how you balance out having two conservative MPs interviewing a Conservative MP.

Looks like Merci Muroki discussed a live trial during a monologue in an inappropriate way. No follow-up since GBN have acknowledged their error and promised action to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
That's pretty much week 1 at journalism school..... basic basic stuff. It's also something you can be sent down for
Quote:Being neither an expert in journalism or law I can see why the judge didn't pursue a contempt of court charge as this is very much Mercy giving her opinion on the case in a fairly generic, but unnecessary manner, rather than specifically saying anything which might compromise things such as revealing something about the defendents which may prejudice the jury - but as you say it's journalism 101 that you stick to facts, rather than opinion, whilst commenting on an ongoing trial. That said it is now quite easy for any of us to unwittingly be in contempt of court when deals of an ongoing trial are reported and you pass comment on them on social media.
Agreed regarding casual social media posts but, as has been said, the Legal stuff is one of the first things reporters are taught.
There is simply no excuse for a broadcaster to get this so wrong. Directors and other technicians are also aware of the legal aspects and may be sent on legal courses.
Basically means that GBN have no compliance structure.
They could end up getting sued for a lot of money.

Loss of Licence to Broadcast.
Sued if they libel or slander.
Fined or imprisoned for Contempt of Court.
For information courts regularly issue legal 'reminders' to broadcasters of prominent cases - I don't know if this was one.
I do think the plurality issue, they’re trying to see how far they can push it and they’re waiting until any complaints are upheld before making changes.
i notice they starting to use personalised email address now, far better than gbviews@gbnews.uk which is a tongue twister

Its not just that show, you also have the irish mp presenting her own show and also when farage is off on a sunday you have the north east mp presenting the correction. all these seem capable of presenting to camera fine unlike some non mp presenters that are shockingly bad., but broadcasting rules exist for a reason. the management madesure andrew neils name was on things as if anything went wrong its him that would get in trouble and he was well used and abused for that, now he is no longer there who is the named one in charge should things go tits up and who can be blamed

For clarification GB News do not have an Irish MP presenting I.e. a member of the Irish Parliament in Dublin (Dial Eireann). They do have however Arlene Foster (Friday 3-4pm) who is now a former Member of the Legislative Assembly(MLA) at Stormont in Belfast, also she is the former Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party which made her First Minister of Northern Ireland. An "Irish MP" would certainly be out of place on GB News.
And I think Arlene Foster (and the DUP in general) would be fuming at being called "Irish".

In all honesty, McVey's husband is surplus to requirements. It's like GB News are paying him to keep Esther company!
Agreed. Esther is a natural presenter. Philip not so much.

Nothing new - they’ve used this for Mark’s show for months I think, GBVIEWS@GBNEWS.UK is still used across most shows.
I wonder if they’re using the studio for rehearsals for the new shows whilst they’re showing the recorded programmes this weekend. You’d think so but you never know with GB News. If it is the case sort of demonstrates another reason why it’s silly that they only have one big studio.
Although not sure when the new shows start as they’re still showing the best of the briefing next weeks.
Something interesting here. Simon Pusey was in reading the news on GB News yesterday evening, then made his way to the BBC and presented the overnight shift on BBC News. Wonder how that's going down with the BBC hating mob at GB News?
Also is it common for a presenter to present on two different channels, particularly on the same day?
