It was the last time a UK based news channel was launched, and still the only one to have the plug pulled, wrongfully in my opinion, but it’s still the case. In terms of output, the ITN/ITV News Channel was 100%+ better than anything GB News have so far done.
In response to someone on here who said they felt the anchors we see on GB News are performing a style or type of presenter and are not really themselves on screen - this is very true with many US cable news channel anchors.
Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson on Fox News springs to mind, with many US media commentators saying that both Sean and Tucker were acting a role on Fox News, as ultra right wing conservatives - as their both shows are in the heart of prime time, where the big $$$ are made in advertising on US cable news channels.
Fox and Friends is also another perfect example, where the three anchors are doing an act. Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade especially, are portraying an over-the-top version of themselves and it has worked, as Fox and Friends continues to be the highest rated cable morning news show.
Greg Gutfeld is another prime example on Fox News, with his friend Penn Gillette from Penn and Teller exposing his "act" in an interview.
Penn said he knew Greg for many years, and the man seen on Fox News Channel is not the man he knew for many years. The real Greg, is a moderate, centrist man, neither leaning far left or far right. On screen, his persona is very right wing, anti Democrat Party, anti woke, anti PC - which Penn said was the complete opposite to the private man.

This is what happens in a deregulated environment. 'Actors' on news channels. What/who is the viewer meant to believe or are they in on the joke?

Possibly because GB News is part funded by Discovery, so it makes sense.
