Yes, very strange it’s in D Today, That Backdrop used to be in C.
They’re also using yesterday’s News at Five Trundle.

Very good reasons why.

I’m sure they just used a live newsroom trundle going into the 1?

Nope. Looks like it was recorded before Covid. You can tell by the red tables & sofas around the newsroom which, since lockdown began last year, they were removed and haven't returned since.
Pre-recorded trundles have been in use throughout today since the NC began airing at 10am after Breakfast and still continue to do so at present time, so I would assume that some form of maintenance is ongoing in the newsroom which means that E has to be out of action and they temporarily move into a different studio.
Update: There was initial thought that the hoop itself was going to finally get itself a fix so that the real thing can finally be seen, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.

Looks like then it's some major technical issue within E, the NC's main studio, which had required them to move into a different studio for the timebeing. In this case being BBC London's Studio D, where the News Channel has been broadcasting their bulletins today since 10am this morning. That's my assumption anyways. Modern technology behind the scenes must be having its own wonders again.
Or the annual rehearsal of The Queen's Death.
Or just some routine maintenance planned in advance.
I always love how the forum turns into a Whodunnit? when there’s a temporary studio switch for a few hours.

Prehaps if someone came out and said it at the start what the reason was for the switch, there wouldn't be the speculation in the first place!
Studio E back at 2pm - looks like the fire has been put out.

It wouldn't be that too much of a big deal for the vast majority of viewers just for a temporary studio change from their usual home for even just a few hours, let's be quite honest about that. They'd care more about the content of the bulletin itself and how they report on the headlines. Of course, many of us TV Geeks have very eagled eyes on how a programme is looking style and presentation wise so we often tend to notice things very well when things behind the scenes change how things operate sometimes. However, a point-out at the beginning of a programme wouldn't necessarily be needed even just for a minor presentational change which a lot of ordinary viewers wouldn't care about otherwise.
Is there a reason why they didn’t go to studio C? News channel and world were simulcasting so surely it would’ve been available.

Because although there were some joint bulletins, there were also some separate ones. It was planned for News Channel to move to D for this morning.
