But what’s behind this side effect? I guess it’s because Outside Source (now Katty & Christian) is using C’s gallery, which World News America will use in the next hour, instead of A, so they tent to let C prepare WNA?

I'd hesitate to call it an 'emergency contingency'. As a presentation device, there are a few occasions where you'd want the equivalent of a holding slide. BBC World (as was) for years had a break-filler and the numberless version is used when the news channel has network obligations - rather than just cutting in and out

Just a side point here. I knew Katty and Christian was produced in London. However I thought WNA was produced in Washington? They seem to have a gallery capable of it after the upgrade.

It’s used to fill on news channel when a network bulletin doesn’t start at the top of the hour. As happened for the Ten tonight.

BBC Logo is black on white background, it doesn't use BBC News or BBC Three branding, but looks very modern and slick at the same time. Made me realise how dated the branding is. Even if it is new!

I also spotted this on the BBC jobs site. The place is a mess logo wise, but certainly seems like a modernisation of the style is building.



I do wonder if The BBC News channel could drop "news" from the name and just be known as BBC. It would still be identified as BBC News but without the word "News" in the logo. It just looks dated and bulky to me.

I don't see how it's any different to removing "24". Everyone knows it is the news channel/BBC News so it is a waste of design and space to have the word "news". In addition the future is not linear channels. It is the BBC (and a strong BBC brand) as a whole entity producing content. Channels are dated and will be gone some time down the road. That's my two pennies on the current design.The future is now, change or being irrelevant is my thinking.

It uses a different font than when the channel was called 'News 24'.

I wouldn't be opposed to them dropping the 'News' for on screen branding. The BBC logo has always looked better on its own and ultimately the purpose of the logo is more to distinguish itself from its opponents rather than to highlight which internal division of the BBC you are watching. BBC Sport football score counters look far better with just a black BBC logo on yellow - including the full BBC Sport logo would be unnecessary and wouldn't look as great.
