With Covid Cases going up again (45k Cases Yesterday), It's the wrong time to drop/Reduce Social Distancing In My Opinion. I feel like they should have waited a few more months before reducing Social Distancing Measures
You're entitled to that view and I'm sure many others will share it, but I must respectfully disagree.
As the weather gets colder, cases will inevitably rise just as there are more cases of colds and flu every winter than there are in, say, July. Of course, you don't hear about how many people have the flu on a daily basis every winter on the news so it isn't something you normally really consider.
The fact that four-fifths of people aged sixteen and over have now received two doses of the vaccine and with 'boosters' being given out for those deemed more vulnerable, I feel you've got to draw the line somewhere and get back to some form of normality at some stage.
Finally GMB has dropped the distancing.
I do think for now the 'Mega Desk' has to stay as if you go back to the old one they can fit about 3 people around it.
The reason I think Kevin & Ian were distancing is maybe because one of them wants to keep distancing

There not ITV employees and see a lot more colleagues from their main employers who might not fancy a covid outbreak spreading from GMB to their offices.

I know what you mean. At launch, the show felt young, fresh, ambitious, more news orientated but with similar topics covered compared to ITV Breakfast of old, all in a very structured way with a team who seemed to get on very well together.
Whilst Piers may have improved the ratings, the arrival of the debate format is what turned me off the programme; I’d rather know what’s going on across the news (including local news, sport & entertainment) whilst coming around to the day in a warm, friendly manner.
As for the set, looking back at those clips, I know what you mean, they made a fantastic use out of that space, and that original desk is still imo the best desk that they’ve had. The problem with comparison currently is that the current desk takes up far too much room (for obvious reasons), and we wouldn’t know how they would have had to adapt Studio 5 for social distancing.
Agree - the launch set was an absolute thing of beauty, [mention]Fanoftv[/mention].
The desk in particular was so sleek and modern and the whole set up with the different presentation areas looked like nothing else on UK daytime TV at launch.
Felt fresh and exciting. I loved it!

Isn't this the point of Breakfast though? Why try to be the same as your competitor instead of broadcasting to a different market? I think GMB provides a good alternative.

Couldn’t agree more!
When you look at something like the original break sting graphics, for example, they are absolutely lovely. The consistency of having everything based around the teardrop logo shape was so uniform, and genuinely different. Now the graphics are a total mess of styles - some elements based on the original look, others from 2017, now with the addition of flying colourful lines all over them…
As for the set, the original studio really was fantastic. The current set is fine, but I think having complete freedom to do as they pleased sent things far too over the top, making the set seem like a poor imitation of the one it replaced.
As for reducing social distancing from this morning, as expected, it looked completely ridiculous having Susanna and Richard next to each other, with Charlotte sat about 3 miles away. The sooner the oversized desk gets dumped, the better IMO.
I think they eventually could either
- Go back to the previous desk
But I agree this morning did look strange Richard and Susanna together looked fine but Charlotte about 4m away and Kevin & Ian sat apart it just didn't make sense.

No it doesn't and what Fanoftv said is absolutely right, GMB should concentrate on having a regular news bulletin at the top of the hour including regional and weather updates, not waste time on having pointless debates.
Without sounding speculative; we could see changes once the new replacement for Erron is in place. Not sure if the new person has been named yet.
I am not saying a change straight away but maybe after they have been in place a while and have time to plan what they want to do.
There again it could be an interview question of what vision or changes they would want to make.
The original 2014 look and music was fantastic. I still enjoy the programme but I remember the reaction of everyone to that 6AM Opener which still gives me a boost.
I also and always have said there should be more Regional News too.

But there are plenty of ways you can be different from Breakfast. We hear plenty of people on here saying they think Breakfast is boring. That does not neccessarily mean they don't want the news, but they want something a bit lighter, along the lines that TV-am and GMTV used to deliver. That can be a news programme that features more showbiz and celebrity and royal news, which the Beeb wouldn't cover quite so much because it's a bit tabloid. But just because some people think Breakfast is a bit staid and they spend too much time on political or international stories that they aren't that bothered about, that doesn't mean they want relentless shouting and arguments and picking fights with people. There's a happy medium to be struck, as TV-am and GMTV used to do, of a programme that features the news but can also do lighter stuff.
I mean, the most popular breakfast show in Britain is Zoe Ball on Radio 2, which includes the news, the sport, the travel and so on, but plenty of lighter items in between. Where's the equivalent of that on television? That's a market GMB can target.
I have to say I’m also in the corner of not being a fan of this large desk, They've reduced the social distancing between Susanna and Richard but there’s still only 5 people seemingly ‘allowed’ round the desk, Charlotte was kicked off this morning at 6:30 to allow Dr Hilary to sit down. So what’s the point in reduced distancing if it’s not to allow more contributors at times? Seems pointless.
Even when social distancing is completely dropped - when that will be is another matter, mind you - the large desk still has lots of useless space. On the longest section where the two main hosts sit, theres just two people taking up loads of space as it wouldn’t be ideal for any guest to sit next to you, that’d look more like a co-presenter than a guest. Really it would make more sense for Charlotte to be positioned next to the co-hosts on that side, then perhaps GMBs own experts/correspondents/editors could sit where the newsreader has sit up to now. That way allowing, Charlotte/Dr Hilary/two main hosts and the two news reviewers to all sit at the desk. During the programme that space could be used for extra guests when needed, on bigger debates.
