I suspect the reason they're struggling to replace it is because Piers made it a toxic brand people don't want to be associated with.

that brand has also been tarnished. They're going to have to come up with a new name. I suggest "ITV Morning News", which is just a 3 hour version of the existing Lunchtime News, and they can have that one for free
Piers says things to wind people up and prompt debate. Look at how much he argues on Twitter with Dan Walker, Gary Lineker etc before being pictured playing golf or drinking with them. The entire premise of GMB with him at the helm was the encourage guests (and colleagues) to defend their positions. Ironically his own inability to do so was what led to his departure though.
It's brand Piers. As someone said in discussing Mark Dolan in the GB News thread sadly these people know there is a market that pays for it and expects it and the more controversial they are, even if it means being a despicable human being, the more it pays. I suspect Piers is on a six-figure deal for his Mail column.
I somehow doubt that ITV would bring Piers back, especially after today's Daily Mail column. Much of the criticism of ITV just before his departure was how hypocritical it looked of the broadcaster to have its 'Britain Get Talking' campaign whilst employing him.
GMB is certainly in a rut - Martin Lewis was the best of the guest presenters however it looks like he's not keen on signing anything more permanent. I'm surprised they haven't managed to find Piers' replacement for September, where I assume we'll see more guest presenters. Maybe we'll have a January relaunch?
Personally, I'd like ITV to name Susanna as a solo main host. Have a set of presenters/guests around the desk throughout the programme - News, Consumer, Health (depending on the day) and news contributors/columnists. Still plenty of time for discussion, debate and humour. Susanna will never have a partnership which matches her time with Piers, so why not try something new?
Was ironic Piers criticising athletes for celebrating silver medals given all his ratings posts when GMB were a distant second.

was the show and therefore any success the show had was entirely his doing. Referring to GMB as 'my own show' during his strop with Alex on his last programme is proof enough that he saw the programme as
The Piers Morgan Show and not
Good Morning Britain.
On Twitter, he's very good at cherry-picking certain viewing figures which back up his point, ignoring other figures which don't, employing unfair comparisons, and using very creative wording to make things appear to skew his way. He'll isolate the lowest rated part of an edition of BBC Breakfast at 6am on a Bank Holiday when nobody's up early to watch TV and then compare that to the best ratings he ever got at 8am on a normal working day on GMB and present it as like-for-like to gloat that his figures were better than the BBC's. :roll:

Piers had already made the initial controversial comments during the
previous show on the Monday, (henceforth known as Stropday Eve).
This caused a lot of press interest and it was reported that Mind had expressed dissatisfaction with ITV following Piers' comments. There was a lot of chatter along the lines of whether he'd be sacked/punished/forced to apologise.
More people than usual, therefore, tuned in the next day (Stropday), knowing that there'd be some form of fallout/response.
When Piers out-piersed himself beyond our wildest dreams by storming off rather than listen to someone who's actually had personal experience of the issue Piers seemed to think he was an authority on, those who weren't already watching heard about him flouncing off and flicked over to ITV to see what was happening.
This led to GMB 'beating' BBC Breakfast, albeit very
very temporarily.
Makes perfect sense - you didn't need to be Mystic Meg to see it was going to be worth tuning in to the start of Tuesday's show. The flounce off was merely a Brucie bonus.

Olympic Breakfast must be doing very badly.
Presumably Reid's ratings increase is because the BBC isn't doing its usual news programme and is showing Olympic sport, which isn't of interest to a lot of people.
I knew Good Morning Britain was going to beat Olympic Breakfast. The BBC has inadvertently harmed BBC Breakfast's lead permanently now by taking it off air for a fortnight.
Edit: it hasn't beaten Olympic Breakfast. My bad.

Please will you lay of the hyperbolise in reporting the demise of BBC Breakfast over GMB.
Personally I have been watching GMB the last few mornings instead of Olympic Breakfast. However once the Olympics is over I'll almost certainly revert back to watching BBC Breakfast, in part as I like the more consistent timings of features within Breakfast (e.g. national headlines, weather, and regional news).

I think permanently is a bit harsh. It might take them a few weeks to recover, but we don't want to go crazy and say BBC Breakfast is going to get axed next year, do we?
