I agree with everyone's comments about Piers. I wasn't his biggest fan. His rants and tirades could be full on in the morning. However, whether you liked him or not he managed to captivate the audience which made people watch. I find it more relaxing watching GMB, however it is a bit dull.
I found it curious today that they sidelined Adil Ray for Susanna Reid. He was due to present with Kate. As some have mentioned if he is Pier's potential replacement then why wasn't he given the chance to present and get more experience delivering a big news story. I think Adil is alright as a Relief/cover presenter. He has improved his presenting skills and has good chemistry with the team. But, he still lacks the gravitas in my opinion. .
As other's have mentioned they will probably rotate presenters with different combinations over the next few months. I always thought Bill Turnbull would be an excellent candidate given his chemistry with Susanna. When he guest presented on the show last year the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Although, Bill is still recovering from his prostate cancer and has said before he only wanted to guest present.
In terms of the new desk, I do like it. It is very big and solves the issue of accommodating guests socially distanced. It does seem slightly out of shape with the credenza. In future, I hope they could use other parts of the studio for interviews when it is safe to do so. The sofa area they had before was vastly underused. With the new desk I appreciate limits of what can be done in terms of space. But, it would be nice to see them use the full studio space.
The sofa area always seemed really cramped and squeezed in compared to the Studio 5 set, as if not much effort had gone into designing the sofa area.

I that ITV will want a Someone Of Colour sitting next to Susanna when they announce a full time replacement for Piers (Because of BLM and Diversity, etc). As I've said before, I think the 2 most likely candidates are either Alex or Adil. I honestly can't see Sean being a permanent replacement for Piers as I think he lacks the ability to have heated debates and Speak his mind. Whereas both Alex and Adil have Spoken their minds and had heated debates in the past

I don't even think the Sofa area was used at all in 2020 (Including Pre Pandemic). I think the last time it was properly used was when Derek and Kate's kids went on to talk about Kate in the Jungle and the last time before that was probably about 6 months before. Ever since GMB moved to TVC, the sofa area has only been used about a handful of times. When GMB was at LWT/TLS/South Bank, The sofa was used on an almost daily basis

Until about late-2017, yes, but even at TLS from late-2017 onwards it was used nowhere near as much as previously.

Firstly, Whoever gets the GMB job will be on their individual merit, not any box ticking exercise.
And secondly, it’s precisely on individual merit, I can say that IMO Alex Beresford will not get the job full time. They’re going to get someone who has extensive experience in journalism, presenting or reporting, I’m not sure Alex at that level. I’d say Sean actually stands more of a chance than Alex, but I don’t really think Sean will get the job either mind you.
Bill Turnbull has been mentioned too but even if Bill wanted the job, I can’t see it working full time. ITV using an old BBC Breakfast pairing 8 years on for its own breakfast programme doesn’t sit well to me. Very unlikely. Eamonn is more likely than Bill, but not sure he’d want three mornings a week. I also wouldn’t rule out Adil just yet. I’d say an outside chance that Dermot Murnaghan or Mark Austin could be tempted away from Sky News, Clive Myrie was the only BBC name that springs to mind, but now getting Mastermind may rule him out.
Without prying too much into his personal life I suspect it's safe to say Bill is at a point in his life where getting up to go to work around 4am three mornings a week is probably not going to appeal.
If Adil (or Alex) gets a permanent role I think it'll be at the back end of the week with Ben returning to Mon-Wed from the autumn. That's not very exciting but unless they really surprise us with a signing from outside the ITV family I suspect it's the most likely outcome.
There are people within ITV News who I think given the chance really could make the role their own - I've mentioned Chris Ship before (whose profile is only benefitting from the stories of the last month) and I also think Daniel Hewitt could be a good choice if they were looking for a younger host with journalistic credentials. However I think they're far more likely to go for a name than a talent.
To be fair, there are other presenters who could also be good for the job. One such example is Chris Hall of ITV News Granada Reports.
For such a high profile role, ITV is not going to go for a reporter, ITV or otherwise (especially one from regional news).
Next week will be one of the first actual tests for the future of the prog. Susanna and Adil for three days, with no excuses about school holidays in parts of the UK.
I still predict that Susanna will move on. If that did happen I think that Victoria Derbyshire at the helm with various male co-presenters would be a great refresh for the programme.

If this is the case then I think they should move Kate to the start of the week so she has a chance to present with Ben
