You're being rather overdramatic.

Please will you lay of the hyperbolise in reporting the demise of BBC Breakfast over GMB.

Personally I have been watching GMB the last few mornings instead of Olympic Breakfast. However once the Olympics is over I'll almost certainly revert back to watching BBC Breakfast, in part as I like the more consistent timings of features within Breakfast (e.g. national headlines, weather, and regional news).

I don’t find GMB as inconsistent as it seems to be made out to be. I watch from 6:00-6:45 - I know the start is going to be the headlines, I know about 6:15 will be Laura with the weather followed by the regional news, I know 6:20 entertainment, I know by 6:30 it’s time to have breakfast and by the time the paper review is in full swing it’s time to leave.

Breakfast TV is background watching - dare I say it GMB presents a much better format especially during the news hour to start your day. And that’s from someone who until the Piers fiasco (and not due to Piers) watched Breakfast almost exclusively.

You happen to watch during the first section of the programme, which is the only part of the show which is truly consistent day to day. If that's all you see of GMB, then you're bound to have this point of view.

However, if your circumstances changed, and your new morning routine meant you ended up watching later, between, say, 7:40am and 8:20am every day, you'd have much less of an idea what you'd get to see and when, which I personally see as a problem.

I know many people seem to like GMB's 'flexible' style, and each to their own, but I want to know what to expect from a morning programme; I only have a finite amount of time when I'm getting ready for work - I haven't got time to tune in and just wait patiently until the bit I want to see comes around. I want to know that if I put it on at a certain time, I can catch the weather, or regional news, or headlines, etc. The first half hour does this perfectly, I just wish they could continue this discipline into the main body of the programme.

Alright - thanks. I stand corrected. Apparently, yesterday, the day Susanna Reid is tweeting congratulations about, Good Morning Britain averaged 800k and peaked at 1.2m. Olympic Breakfast averaged 1.4m and peaked at over 2m.

Sorry to all. I thought Olympic Breakfast was faring badly.
The noteable difference is GMB always makes a point of gloating when they break the million mark. Breakfast don't need to because they're comfortably above it on a daily basis.

Perhaps I got lucky… the first half hour of the show is very much good. All they need to bring back is ‘here’s the world you’re waking up to’!

To be fair, that's what being the underdog is all about. I forget who came up with this analogy: you don't hear Coke ever talk about Pepsi, but Pepsi used to talk about how much better they were than Coke all the time (which is why I found Dan Walker's tweets about Breakfast getting higher ratings to be not a good look).
Clearly some people are watching GMB so get their news fix but Olympic Breakfast is attracting a different audience to the one who usually watch BBC Breakfast.
Although are GMB leading on the overnight winners anyway, but presumably very limited in what they can show. The IOC usually stipulate three minutes three times a day for non-rights holders and I think 6x 90 seconds for news channels.
I suspect it’s not a coincidence that Ben Shepherd has been doing the start of the week this week rather than a guest host. Arguably the closest they have to Breakfast’s style.
Although Ben often switches to the beginning of the week in the holidays. Ultimately that is the only option they really seem to have at the moment too (if Tipping Point filming can be adjusted accordingly), but it's probably the one they really didn't want to go with.
I’m not sure why people always get rattled whenever good GMB ratings are posted, quick to find reasons to dismiss them and make reasons about why the ratings aren’t actually as good as they make out?

Also Richard Frediani regularly tweets BBC Breakfast ratings recently, so it isn’t true to say they never mention them.
Something I've just noticed, the trailers within GMB are all ITV branded. For instance '....tonight at 9 on ITV...'. Do these trailers appear in STVland or does Chiswick feed them something else?

As long as I can remember, going as far back as the mid 90s and the GMTV days, any programme trailers during the Breakfast service have been ITV branded network trails and not STV.
