Just need to sort out the editorial side of the show now: Piers would have never put up with a discussion entitled ‘can we trust the UK police’ ...the show seems to be aiming at a guardian reader.
Each passing day just serves to underline how good Piers was (Meghan mental health rant withstanding).

Adil Ray just doesn’t remotely have that X factor and makes Susanna an even more ordinary presenter (Piers brought out her best qualities). It’s been so average this week with Adil and Susanna. I really think they should have gone down the novelty guest host + Susanna route for a bit to put clear blue water between the Piers era and the eventual successor (which is presumably months away).

Again, I can't imagine Richard Madeley replacing Piers permanently GMB goes back to the April 2014 Format where they have 4 hosts or unless Ben decides to leave GMB.

To put it into perspective the Main Hosts team will look like this:
Richard Madeley - White
Susanna Reid - White
Ben Shephard - White
Kate Garraway - White.

Not a single BAME person will be on the main presenting team.

Find an equally good BAME presenter as the non-BAME names being thrown in the mix (that fit the show format preferably), then come back with that argument. Can't really say that and not point out BAME presenters that could fill the post...

Adil Ray; currently being panned universally online, and seems to drop in an accent/stereotype reference on the regular (MEGA annoying for me, speaking as a BAME person);
Ranvir Singh; seems to enjoy her edgy Political Editor post (but would be a good co-host, with a little refinement on her talking over people);
Sean Fletcher; far too weak to be co-host;
Andi Peters; sure...he could work, and be popular with the viewers too, but could be complex with his role in the competition production company. Not sure how he'd handle breaking news, certainly better than;
Alex Beresford; Crap interviewer and basically whatever the male equivalent of an "auto-cutie" is, can't do much else - dread the day news breaks on his watch. Fairly experienced forecaster, however.

That exhausts the extended family...

So should they parachute someone - who clearly isn't right for the role - in, just to tick some diversity boxes? Or would it be wiser to simply hire the best presenter at the time?

Given that the UK is 86% white (according to GOV.uk), statistically its not completely out of the question that all 4 main presenters could be white. GMB has an extended team that includes a number of black presenters, and that extended team features heavily in the two presenting seats every week. Its very rare now that its only the main 4 featuring across the week.

Yes its important to have a diverse team of on-air talent, and ITV seems to have got a lot better at that, but lets not use ethnicity as the main criteria for recruitment - in my view, doing so is quite patronising.

I think that in a day and age of diversity and equality, there's no reason why they shouldn't do both
I don't really think Richard Madely is the long term solution - if they're going down that route Eamonn would be the better choice. I wouldn't be surprised though that if in both their cases a guest stint may appeal, but not the full time job.

Really though as much as there is logic in relying on guest hosts for now with a view to a permanent replacement in September there is a risk dragging out the process may actually damage the brand and they should aim to get a replacement in place as soon as possible- a June start would still have given the process two months.

You've mentioned 'main hosts' before, and as I told you last time, people's roles are a lot more fluid than that on GMB. Kate, for example, whom you've classed as a 'main host' seems to appear in the newsreader role as often as she appears as a 'main host' so I'm not sure how she's any different to, say, Ranvir, who, to prove my point about people's roles being quite flexible, is officially on the road as the Political Editor, but is frequently in the studio, in a newsreading and 'main host' capacity. I'm off today so turned GMB on earlier this morning, and I see that Sean is a 'main host' today, despite being utilised more frequently as a newsreader and having previously focussed solely on sports coverage. I've long said that GMB should utilise him more so I'm glad to see him presenting again today. (I seem to be in the minority here in that I think that he's a really strong presenter!) Generally, though, going back to your list, the personnel on the show chop and change and move around to suit the needs of the programme. As far as I see it, the whole show is a big team effort and that team is a large and diverse one with many strong characters. I don't think that breaking it down in the way you have is fair or helpful.

If we're going to think about BAME, then shouldn't all ethnic groups be considered rather than just one ? For example, is there a single on-air personality from an asian ethnic group on ITV Daytime? Not that I can think of.
What about Ranvir and Adil? They're both Asain
I think ITV would love their Piers replacement to come from an ethnic minority (the BAME acronym is being moved away from now, everyone). However, they’re in a bit of a hole at the moment so it’s probably not their #1 factor.

No offence to Andi Peters but the idea of him ever having to do breaking news is a bit laughable. Imagine him helming the coverage of something like the Brussels terror attack that day when GMB went on until 10. To be fair to him he’s never expressed any intention to be newsy. Alex could just about busk it but comes across as incredibly self-absorbed. I do think the programme is in a bit of a state when the likes of Charlotte and Sean are required to do some of the heavy-lifting too.

I stand corrected Smile
I can tell experimenting is going on. Charlotte remained in the newsreader seat today and Sean overtook her in the presenting seat. Usually you would have Sean do the news and Charlotte promoted up to presenting alongside Kate.

Kate may be a Newsreader, but she's also in one of the 2 Main Host seats every week.
Outside of Half Term, Ranvir is rarely in one of the 2 Main seats so I'd Class her as a Newsreader and a Relief Presenter

I'd like to see Sean having a more regular role that's not Holiday relief presenting or being a relief Newsreader. I'd like to see him in one of the 2 main seats more often

What I consider "Main Hosts" and What you consider "Main Hosts" are 2 different things:
I think of the main Hosts as the people who sit in one of the main 2 seats/Host the main part of the show (6:30 Onwards) on a normal non-Half Term week.
95% of the time that was either Piers (up until he Left), Susanna, Ben or Kate.

Slightly related, I think that Dermot O'Leary's days on This Morning are numbered and I can see him gone at the end of the year, because of this I think Ben will leave GMB to join TM and I think he will be replaced by either Alex, Adil or Sean (Assuming that Richard Madeley replaces Piers as he's been reported as the frontrunner)
I’m all for people posting what they want but I’d forgotten quite how tedious GMB chat and in particular GMB rota chat is.
Especially the ‘who’s in what chair’ type discussions.
