The trouble with Alastair Campbell is however good he is he will forever be strongly linked with Labour, which I think is tricky should they give him a permanent role, especially in election periods. Maybe Boris could alternate with him.
I could imagine Boris being asked to do GMB if things had turned out differently for him...
I was thinking also that Colin Murray could be a good fit for a stint at some point?
Michael Portilio might be a good choice as a balance to Campbell?
It’s possible Piers could return one day...but it would be years away.
Different disputes of course but you could never have imagined Chris Evans going back to do a BBC radio show after the explosive way he quit R1; or similarly Paul o’Grady or Richard & Judy returning to ITV; or Jonathan Ross standing-in on R2. Yet all happened eventually, despite them all having vilified the management regimes that made them quit. Piers would have to express some remorse for his mental comments though.

I think Colin Murray got burnt badly from his RI:SE experience. As for Boris - suspect he'll be the first former PM to do I'm a Celeb.

Ben Shepherd, Kate Garraway, Hillary Jones, Richard Arnold and Lorraine Kelly have all done about 20 years or more now. (I know it was technically GMTV and not ITV for a few of those years.)

Frankly, I'm disappointed that he's still getting referred to in this thread so frequently, despite him having left the programme over two months ago; I was hoping to erase the fact that he was ever part of the show from my memory completely.
There's no "perspective" at all in Piers Morgan's Tweet. He cites the viewing figures for his last day as if Good Morning Britain was consistently beating BBC Breakfast during his time on the show - it wasn't. It may have closed the gap to about 10-12% share (300k - 400k) on average between the two as he became ever more outspoken, but Breakfast has always remained ahead.
Also, to refer to BBC Breakfast as "these dullards" is a real measure of the man - I get that BBC Breakfast is perceived as a safe, bland programme (unfairly, in my opinion), but these are fellow professionals in the same industry. Friendly rivalry, ok, but "dullards" is pretty insulting and unprofessional. And it's worth pointing out the likes of Dan Walker has always been quite complimentary of Good Morning Britain, even during his Twitter spats with Piers Morgan.
It was also the day after he said Meghan was lying about her suicidal thoughts and that story was everywhere.
He needs to move on.
Yeah, he's clearly flattering himself too much with that tweet and those viewership figures. But having a show that is talked about, is the holy grail of television production. ITV is clearly trying out Piers-like hosts, such as Alastair Campbell. By being a copy of the original, it is unlikely to be a success. Perhaps they should ask him back.
Piers come across really bitter that BBC Breakfast is still the number 1 Breakfast show.

Although, Ben has done slightly less than Kate, Dr Hilary, Richard Arnold and Lorraine. He left GMTV and came back when GMB started.
Adil Ray’s averageness definitely heightened a bit more today by following the generally well-received Alistair Campbell
I’m not surprised the government ministers boycotted the show for so long. Adil doing a very good job of being a shouty schoolchild and not actually listening to responses. GMB to need learn if the presenters don’t like a response because it doesn’t fit theie agenda then the answer isn’t just to raise your voice.

There is a desperation to create "talked about moments". It's become the identity of the show and the presenters know it will get them ahead.
How much longer have we got Adil Ray presenting? He is a very poor Piers Morgan impersonator. The sooner GMB get a permanent lead presenter in the better. So far I have been impressed with Sean and Alaistair (Although wooden the first day he got better as the week went on)
