Maybe Andrew Neil will end up back in his role as a This Morning paper reviewer...?
I suspect Andrew Neil would rather spend his time in the South of France rather than Television Centre.
It was nonsense to think that Piers would ever be back on GMB given that he effectively jumped before he was pushed. I'm glad this has put that to bed at last.
Perhaps GMB are happy with having a rotation of (guest) presenters?
I guess but I don't think its a good idea long term
Better to have a rotation of regular stand-ins and remain at about 20% share than go all-out for the wrong person at this stage.

Maybe they are happy with guest presenters but it would damage their Ratings long term.

Agreed - the show is losing its identity and will continue to do so if someone permanent isn't found.

I personally think that they need a replacement ready for January if they don't want their ratings damaged long term.
But then if they find a replacement and it’s the wrong one, and it’s 50% likely it will be*, then the ratings would also be damaged.
* Half will want some sort of Piers Morgan style host shouting at ministers, half will want some Kate and Ben type nice host
Do people honestly think it’s better to have any host than the right host? This place blows my mind sometimes.

No, I just think that they can’t spent ages deciding, as the show is losing its unique identity that it had under Piers.

Can I just remind you that the identity under Piers was not unique, it was horrible having to listen to him shouting every morning, that's not what a journalist does, he was a bully and now he's gone, he is not missed.

For me the ideal candidate would combine both characteristics. Anyone who comes in as simply another shouty attack-dog is just going to be seen as a poor man’s Piers Morgan, and anyone who’s a fluffy GMTV type isn’t going to cut through and make an impact.
They need to be looking for someone with a bit of an edge and personality who can hold ministers to account, but who has likeability too. I think Martin Lewis would be ideal in this respect, and it’s a shame he doesn’t want to do the job on a permanent basis.
Look at how well that interview with Shamima Begum was conducted by Richard and Susanna this week. Now, imagine if Piers was hosting. It'd have been him ranting and raving down the line.
What Piers did bring to the party is that GMB can't revert to full on GMTV fluffiness. One of the few things I agreed with Piers on was when he'd be off during the summer break, it'd resort to presenters being fluffy.
This summer, it didn't happen, keeping to a mix of hard news with some fluff, but not the saccharine blandness of the past.
