I didn't either. It seemed like he wanted to leave very quickly without much fanfare and then just join a rival the next day.
I'm obviously gonna reserve judgement until the channel is on air, but the hiring of Simon gives me at least a little bit of hope that the channel won't be too much like Fox News.

I'm curious about GB News. It's had a lot of hype and will be interesting to see how it pans out.
If this project doesn't end up being profitable and ends up being shut down, you end up with a lot of 'good' journalistic people out of work & potentially having burnt bridges with their previous place of work?
I've been thinking the same with Times Radio, as there's a few great hires there - but I suppose they have the luxury of being able to redeploy people across News UK assets should they call time on Times Radio.
It was noticeable on both the BBC news channel & Twitter that Simon McCoy went out of his way not to burn bridges. I would think Mr McCoy would be rehireable on the BBC but not Andrew Neil. I just dont know howthey are going to make enough money to make GB News work, but who knows.

I know you cannot have news programmes sponsored, but if it's an opinion based show (so what looks like evenings on GB News), could they have show sponsorships alongside adverts?
Relating to the above, are news channels allowed to have an advertiser sponsor the channel itself?
As opposed to individual shows but similar to how programming blocks are sponsored on ITV/STV.

I think sports news programmes and slots have been sponsored on Sky and previously the ITV News Channel. And the weather of course.
Ofcom Broadcast Code Section 9.15: "News and current affairs programmes must not be sponsored."
Things like weather, market reports, sport bulletins don't count as news I believe, so that allows for individual segments of a news programme to be sponsored (like we see on Sky News).
Michelle Dewberry is an interesting choice. I really hope that isn't an attempt to replicate the career trajectory of somebody else who came to prominence as a contestent on The Apprentice
