I say this as someone who is looking forward to the channel launching... it does, as I feared it would, look and feel quite basic from the studio to the gallery and equipment. In saying that, we've seen how much progress they make in the days between these video releases so hopefully the studio still has a bit more work going on.

Is it a news studio or is it an IKEA showroom? That coffee table and lamp set-up is definitely IKEA..

I find it entertaining how there is prompter rolling through but none of the cameras we have seen have any units...

Don't think I've seen that story covered by Sky/BBC or any papers other than the Telegraph.

At least that should appease the woke warriors offended by videos that may / may not have been uploaded recently after filming

I thought they'd be a lot of blue on the set.

Well at least I know which audience they are going down to target now but I'll leave that there.

I find the studio a bit so and so. Like the furniture used but not a lot of variation so far.

Actually looking at the lighting, the sets are going to be basically blasted with blue-ish light from the overhead lighting panels and lighted strips rather than the traditional studio lighting we usually see. Thought they may be installed later. But I suspect they are finished with the lighting install. You dont have rehearsals taking place if you dont have your lighting installed. Its a crucial part of studio checks. They are definitely launching with a budget look. Its going to look decent, but its certainly not a massive financial output as we typically see from the established networks.

Also it looks like there is going to be lots of talking spaces and casual area. At least from that studio with the seating/interviewing area and then the long breakfast bar area, more talking. Cant figure out what the dark wall is behind the siting area. Not sure about the dark gray "wood" floor AND that massive black breakfast bar. Lots of dark elements. It look like there will be decor shelves on the front of the bar and on the wall behind. But as some have indicated about the furniture..its IKEA. But it could be thats for rehearsal use. (though why would rehearse on furniture thats not going to be on the final broadcasts, who knows when that was shot) They could be getting custom made sofa's and chairs and they probably needed something to use for rehearsals. So lets hold out judgement on that.

Its not awful but it remains to be seen what the finished product will look like. But TO ME.....it definitely has a......Fox News "air"....maybe not in the content (which we obviously haven't seen) but with the blatant flag waving.... the flags on the walls, logo and the programme titles. Thats a lynchpin to FNC's success, visually wrap your channel in the flag and the symbols and name of the country and accuse the other channels of being for other people not for THE citizens/subjects. Its been a successful strategy.

Blue is a good colour for enhancing skin tones. That's hardly a new thing - I know the first Big Brother house was given a blue based decor for that very reason.

Blue was the main colour of BBC News, ITN, Sky, and so on for years.

I can't really agree with Mouseboy's assessment that the set, graphics, et al are festooned in Union Jacks. The colours of the flag make up the logo, that is true however, but I'd be very surprised if they had the flag fluttering in the top left hand corner constantly like FNC after 9/11.

To me, British patriotism is much less flag-wavey anyway but it became even less so after the far-right used it in their publicity in the 1970s.

PS. With the political comments on this thread from the weekend, I guess the new rule is not being enforced. Fair do's - it's Rob's forum and it's still a great place despite the spammers.

Whilst I'd quite like to spend a few paragraphs picking the video apart, it doesn't seem terribly fair and no matter how much I think I know, I don't actually work in the industry, so… (also, who the hell cares what I think?)

But… put it this way, I'd feel more a little confident about how "robust" it was all going to be, especially during a major breaking story, if:

- there was the odd professional studio clock anywhere in sight (Wharton make some nice digital ones?)
- the studio and the monitor stack had some on air / mic live indication
- the screens in the newsroom didn't have roughly three times the surface area as those in the gallery
- the sound operator had somewhere separate to sit

I mean, since good luck to them (I'd like it to be a success, I'm sure there are plenty of talented, friendly, well intentioned people working on the both sides of the camera), but I think given the gallery team are the last line of defence against disaster, for a news channel they deserve a bit more investment in kit and general fit/finish of their working environment.

I'd be surprised if they had sound operators - a tech op who looks after sound and cameras is more realistic especially as the gallery looks like it'll only sit 3 staffers, maybe 4 at a push.

I guess its important to remember it won't be a rolling news channel so it probably will suffice but I do agree it looks rather lacklustre, especially if they intend on the gallery being a backdrop for some shows.

It will still have 3 or 4 more in the gallery that in the one ITV News shows on screen.

It doesn’t really matter though, it’s not as if your average viewer will know which bit the gallery is and which bit is the newsroom etc, and how many people should be staffing each area.

Maybe making a comparison is too much, but the IKEA-esque style of the set is very similar to the set of TV 2 Nyhetene at Bergen Media City.
