Does anyone know if their strategy is to launch straight to TV, or to build up some vital content in the weeks before the launch? Not many genuinely brand new news channels have launched during the social media age, so I’ll be interested in how they approach that. And, also, whether they design their onscreen graphics to fit traditional TV pres, or if they go for something that works better with social media.

That’s why I was surprised by the logo they’ve been using so far - I wouldn’t look at that and say it had been designed with social media in mind. (Or, with anything much in mind, for that matter).

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Good Morning Britain template through the day, and probably evening, where you get news updates, reports here and there but the majority of output is talking heads with the presenters moderating, for daytime at least.

Talking heads cost money though. More likely they'll have a couple of key slots for such things and then can replay that content throughout the day, dressing it up as "news".

It's the impact on the other news channels that I'll find the most interesting thing about the GB News launch. There's a potential for a post-pandemic return to appointment-to-view style programming.

That said, if people want/need a straight news bulletin then there's a niche to be carved out there too. As long as we don't go back to the days of the Sky News evening newswheel! :lol:

Intersting that Dan Wootton is now saying he's getting a nightly show, I don't think he originally said what slot he was getting. (All we knew was he was going to do it 5 days a week) Quite interesting that he said, whilst not explicit when talking about his GB News show, that he can't wait to ''honestly give my verdict on these challenging times'' which makes me think, his show will probably be a talking head show.

GB News has received funding from hedge fund manager Paul Marshall and Legatum, a Dubai-based investment group. This is addition to support from Discovery.

Paul Marshall will presumably be the driving force behind its political direction:

Not yet, but I've heard that the studios are to be complete by "late May or early June".

Haven't they only just put the studio design out to tender, so that would suggest it is some time off yet considering you'd then have the technical fit out and I'd imagine a fairly lengthy period of rehearsals.

It was mentioned on TVF that once you've got your channel number you have 3 months to get on air or lose it.

Freeview's channel allocation rules changed on 1st March - this is the current rule:
Please note 8 weeks before launch is the earliest a channel can apply for a Freeview channel number. This may end up being longer, if the originally intended launch is pushed back, up to a maximum eight weeks.

Not bad - definitely an improvement on the pre-launch branding.

It vaguely reminds me of the ITN News Channel’s branding. Definitely an improvement of what we’ve seen to date.
