Doesn't add much to those of us who don't subscribe to the Telegraph unfortunately.

Just before the paywall blocks it I can see something about live programming starting later in the year so that probably explains the lack of completeness of the studio

I'm willing to that this means these preview videos were filmed some time ago and everything is far, far further along than it seems.

I remember seeing a YouTube video of continuity into a show at 3am after they had closed, saying something about "whilst you get used to being online, here's this" or similar.

Really surprised to hear this- a fortnight on Monday! The article suggests the Telegraph may got it wrong, saying a decision hasn’t been made yet and won’t be for ‘possibly weeks’

Stopped the paywall from coming up and got this:

GB News will air on Freeview channel 236 and will be broadcast across Sky, Virgin Media, YouView and Freesat, alongside a dedicated on-demand streaming service. The news network spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil plans to battle the BBC by targeting audiences that dislike Auntie's rolling news coverage. The channel is backed by American broadcaster Discovery and has hired a raft of seasoned journalists, including veteran ITV news anchor Alastair Stewart and former BBC News presenter Simon McCoy.

Colin Brazier, the former Sky News presenter, said he joined GB News because "the mainstream broadcasters were getting out of touch with a large portion of the viewership". "I think people will be surprised to find that it is not as shrill as they are expecting," he added. "It is going to be more thoughtful and positive, and it will not be po-faced. "Sometimes watching the existing news offerings can feel like being in the audience for an extended sociology lecture - and I don't think this will."

GB News was locked in a race with Rupert Murdoch to become the first organisation to launch a right-leaning news channel before the summer.
However, News UK scrapped its plans for a TV channel last month, claiming it was not "commercially viable". It is now focused on launching a news streaming service.

Alongside Discovery, GB News is backed by hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall and the Dubai-based investment fund Legatum.
The broadcaster has secured enough investment to hire 120 journalists in its attempt to shake-up the media landscape.
The Telegraph's economics commentator Liam Halligan is also joining GB News as economics and business editor.

So as speculated above it looks like a barker/promo type thing to keep the platforms happy and live programmes from some point in the future.

My guess based on the above:-

Pops up on the EPGs perhaps May 24th (a week on Monday)

May 27th Barkers and pre recorded stuff on a loop that get slowly refreshed (every 2 or 3 days)

No live stuff on May 31st, that will be much later this year

Just all guesses.......

Where is GB News Headquarters?

Is it sensible for a "news" channel to launch with no live programming?

On the other hand, the use of the satellite bandwidth implies that they will launch in that timescale.

Speculation is the GB News output will be trailers to ensure they keep their Freeview EPG number, rather than a proper launch.

If they're not ready to do it then why not? If they've committed to the bandwidth and have their playout provider all paid for then a barker loop or something to promote and build up interest is a good idea.


I seem to remember Al Jazeera English came on air with a promo loop many months before it went live. Even when it did it didn't do news 24 hours a day

And as they're using Red Bee for their playout so they don't need to have their HQ ready for pre recorded programmes or a barker.
