I suspect it'll be another time at the weekend. To go up against Marr (and Ridge) would mean loitering outside BBC NBH along with Sky News. Sunday Lunchtime, or early Sunday Evenings might be better ?

Yes I think exactly the same. Men in their 50s/60s with right wing sympathies in the case of Alastair and Colin (check out his liberated Twitter feed). Very skilled broadcasters though and good luck to them. Looking at the moment like it will be news/debates during the day and right-leaning opinion in the evening with some 'liberal' guests to ensure balance in the eyes of Ofcom.

Adding on to what others have said already, the last line of the press release where it suggests Alastair
"...will anchor GB News in more ways than one" is interesting.
Might be reading too much into it but perhaps it suggests he'll be involved in other aspects of the channel's output (eg; being involved in breaking news/major event coverage)
I think getting Alastair on board shows that the GB News are not going to be some two bit news organisation on a shoe string budget.
However the Twitterati mob, as usual, are still spewing their usual gammon outbursts without it even being on air yet.
I'm going to throw in Jeremy Paxman as a possibility to be involved
Peter Smith while he does exemplary work at ITV News and gives it both barrels ecumenically, I think he'd fit in perfectly at GB News as well.
But this is just wishful thinking on my part...
You have to credit GB News for being able to hire many established names, but let's not forget on air they can only work with the resources they're given.
What will GB News become famous for and what will its "breakthrough" moment be? For CNN, it was the 1990 Gulf War. For Sky News, it was its reputation for agility compared to the BBC and being the first place to go for breaking news.
If it is stoking US style culture wars I'm not so sure. Even having been to the US many times, it's still hard to fully appreciate what a radically different country it is to the UK in terms of geography and the differences between individual states.
There is also the question of how it will gain awareness beyond Twitter. It won't the benefit of cross promotion in the papers in the way that Sky did. It's obvious they are preparing for everything to be clipped for social media, but some of the acts of performative contrarianism from Talk Radio for clicks and shares have fallen completely flat.
An odd thing I've seen people asking for on twitter is a 15 minute time-shift service to 'screw over the licence *****'. But these people don't seem to understand that a time-shift service would still be linear TV.
I wonder what catch-up facilities they'll have. Discovery+ possibly?
