Ah. Except I still really like that set. Much better than either GMTV's previous set or the ghastly Daybreak 2.0 set during the Aled & Lorraine era.

I think that Daybreak set was at its height from Spring-Summer 2012 just as it was coming to the end, feeling warm and inviting but not at all obnoxious. The September 2012 set was a HUGE downgrade.

Daybreak in 2010 was launched at the wrong time of year. If they had scheduled the launch for April 2010, the set would have probably looked better, giving the increased brighter mornings. They launched in autumn 2010, when the mornings would increasingly get darker and darker, making the set become redundant, as you could barely see the London backdrop.

Its jaw dropping bad. I mean really bad. Clearly there is a lack of imagination that doesn't cost more money than what they spent. Its literally not even the money. Its the clear lack of imagination. And dont talk to me about content. We are talking about presentation and this qualifies as bad.



Its literately like they just asked the builders just put some walls and "uhhhh paint it black". And Jim the lighting guy stood there with a cuppa saying: "Oi should we put some of these blue LED lighting strips across the back? We have some more left over after running it around the edges of the platform risers." And one of the secretaries said "Yeah that will look pretty." I thought they would have at least at attempted to create that cool abstract Union Flag pattern they created for the launch graphics. That would have looked interesting. Imagine it without the logo, but those angled panels with the hidden led lights in red and blue.

Its not a case of waiting until it on air, its bad, really bad presentation. Unless they are bolting video walls to all those black spaces, I cant see what they are going to do to fix this. They probably are hanging "artwork" on the walls. Take the flooring for example, it wouldnt be that much more expensive to add interest to the floor by using patterns or rectangles or squares, or ran in another direction..... of the same material just in another shade of gray or something to add interest. Not just a sea of grey, its a tv studio after all. But I guess they forgot that part.





Which brings me to the newsroom. Ugh. Why?! ITs so prominently on display and its so dead looking. Just a sea of florescent lighting and plain white walls. How drab. Why not paint the walls with the GBN news pattern they used for the graphics. A huge oversized version. Without the massive logo. That wouldnt have been that much more expensive. After all its teleVISION.


Its not like it hasnt been done before in British tv. Im not suggesting it be this bright or bold but. But they literally did nothing. Not even painting the walls a colour. Maybe paint plain panels in blue and red..Something. Anything. That would add some visual interest across the exapansive sea of people desk and random monitors handing from the ceiling. It looks like a brokerage office in the City.

Maybe a time to be mindful of what Rob has said on other threads, there may be people reading things on here who have put a lot of work into what you're criticising. Doesn't mean we can't be critical, but I think we should be mindful of tone.

Reassuring to see GBN- or at least its set- is being giving the last rites already. The sometimes-hysterical spirit of TV Forum lives on!

Have gb news appointed a South West reporter yet. It seems to be one of the only region not to have its own reporter yet. Which is wierd considering what is happening in Cornwall this weekend

Last I saw, they were trying to recruit one, but obviously hadn't been successful yet.

If GBN are going to release photos of the set, then it's logical there will be a reaction. Good or bad. I am sure the designers are used to it, within reason.

Looking at where GB News is from a programming standpoint, it simply reminds me of the now-defunct TVNZ 7 in, well, NZ. Except that opinion/debate takes center-stage instead of "factual variety" programming (docs/discussion).

A look at the latter's schedule shows a news-heavy breakfast, while 10-min TOTH updates air for the rest of the day. News came from wire sources because own resources are limited. There was no emphasis on breaking news either, except maybe some scheduled significant events (elections et al.)

Won't be surprised if this is the scheduling style GB News is (kinda) modeling, assuming that's the way the channel gets programmed in the 1st place.

Also, since GB News won't have outside-UK bureaus, it'd be interesting to see how much emphasis is placed on global news - surely it can't be all British news, all the time, right?

Everyone and their bloomin' dog seems to be joining GB News... what on Earth is so special about this channel?! From what I have seen it looks utterly cheap and nasty, and I'm not even going to talk about its content. About the only one there I have any time for is Alastair Stewart. I bet it won't even last a year...
