"No new BBC One idents are planned for the foreseeable future."

24 is a good amount of idents and there isn't much of a need to add more, but this does make me wonder about the whole 'regional discourse' that got the package delayed from October. If the above is true, either the additions of Cafe, Lido and Warehouse (that one was a post-October addition if I remember correctly?) have been judged as suitable to negate that issue, or the issue's been dismissed altogether. That's just baseless speculation though  Blush
It helps too they haven't felt the need to tell us exactly where each ident is set on screen. For me they are generic enough to be virtually any British city or any part of the countryside, and frankly I suspect any filmed in the nations would also have to be generic enough so that they could be deemed to be any part of England.

I do hope though for this year at least the Christmas idents are strictly within the theme. They can be a bit looser with it in the future but I think this concept works so well for Christmas. Will be odd seeing the World Cup with Christmas idents this year though.

Didn't ManVSMachine themselves say a second set is on the way?

They did. On their Instagram.

Speaking of which, MvM just posted their case study of the idents.

This is a place when we find logoless version of the idents, despite not for the video itself. Additionally, subtitles tag doesn't appear in the video.

Watching those clean, they really are beautifully produced. You don't perhaps notice when you see them independently, but they feel like there's elements to keep noticing to keep them fresh (the same man in the cafe, the man with the ladder, etc). I agree with those who've said earlier they feel like what Oneness should have been if done well - the concept and tone is the same (people, together, telling different stories of life) but they are just so much better.

If BBC Wales and BBC Scotland had anything to do with it, that kind of attitude might have been what got the initial set of idents in trouble with the nations in the first place!  Tongue

The behind the scenes video shows how much effort went into the idents - quite a contrast to what we saw of Martin Parr up a kitchen step-ladder.
Thanks for posting the making of video for lens idents Axios.

A lot of work went into them, it's a little shame that some aren't more dynamic with movement and objects interacting with 'BBC ONE'. Two surprises for me are that the fence in the farmland idents was built specifically for the ident and that the cafe isn't real but in a studio!

The idents shown in that video are subtly different to the broadcast versions. Nothing passes in front of the BBC logo or the ONE, so they are always on 'top'. Maybe an earlier version prior to rotoscoping?

Edited to add - OK, sorry, there is rotoscoping with things moving in front of the lens. Just not on the graphic elements.
How come the Subtitles goes behind the features on this? Every time I’ve seen it the Subtitles tag stays in front…

Because the subtitle graphic was in the actual ident and is part of the VFX, while for the other ones, it was added afterwards.
That's was my thoughts anyways.
I’ve noticed something passing in front of the “subtitles” text on one of the idents - I think it is network’s version of the “Warehouse - Skaters” ident, but I may be mistaken. It definitely happens on one of the idents though.
Replying to yourself is a sign of madness etc...

I'm probably going to keep looking though, because I've found two locations which are similar but not quite spot on.
I've found the market. It's a bit more visible in the 'calm' variant, but there's an orange lamppost in the distance, which is part of the wayfinding between Tate Modern and Southwark tube.
Archie's Autos is in fact a wine bar.

I found myself in that part of the world today - the wine bar is closed!

I think it's because that one's one of the later additions, where they seemingly decided the subtitles tag should behave like the rest, but they didn't go back and update the original batch.
