No, not your imagination. Totally agree with this. It’s much more “flat” in the idents.

I just realised, right now, why it's throwing me off slightly. When we glimpse the lens at the start of trails, it has a more 3D, almost glass-like appearance. If it was like that in the idents, but with the alternative scenes somehow rendered 'inside' the lens, I think it would look much better!

Fear not, you’re not alone. I’m a big fan of them already. Love the concept of the lens, and love what it’s showing…the same scene at different times of day. Some work better than others but it’s a lovely idea and they are, as you say, beautiful to look at. Added into the bits of the package we’ve already seen, this is the best BBC ONE has looked for a very long time. Since the unedited circles at least.

Looks good that ManvsMachine quality for making BBC One idents equally matching Superunion do for BBC Two and Three idents. However, i previously expecting Superunion for making these idents

The trouble with BBC ONE idents especially, is that several of us create an illusion in our minds as to what they should be like, and when that illusion becomes fantasy and reality hits home, we are disappointed because our expectations were not honoured. That's why some don't like the new ones. With Oneness universally slated by all but a tiny number, you'd think that anything would be better than that. Yet here we are, still people saying they don't like them or complaining that they're not up to the mark. Of course people are entitled to their own opinion, and I respect that.

One of the criticisms about Oneness was the static appearance of the image. It was basically a camera and people staring into it looking gormless. The "lens" idents have, by contrast, some stunningly magnificent camera work. The way that some images are filmed as if going in a solid circle and falling in front or behind the ONE logo, is lovely. It is a far better concept than Oneness, and I would even suggest that it's actually, the natural progression of the circles era. The Lens itself may or may not look better if it was glass like and on screen longer, but we won't actually know that since it isn't! I like the new idents. They are modern and intricate whilst giving BBC ONE a long overdue symbol. The Lens is a good idea since BBC One is our lens on the world.

I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion for sure but... I'm gonna miss Oneness a little. Don't get me wrong, they were dull and these are a huge step up, but I guess I just got used to it.

It's funny how you get used to things - the camera movement in the new set is almost jarring considering how long we've been used to a locked on shot - almost motion sickness inducing infact, but apparently they've been tested for that.

I just wish they were a bit more fun, a bit more fantasy, and perhaps a bit bolder with the central idea. I do like the three idents in one concept though meaning idents reference each other, but they feel more BBC4 than BBC1 IMO. Kind of a similar concept with different perspectives on the same scene.

Thanks for this, the truth. While I did agree, Oneness was a little dull (and will be missed by me), I tend to think that any new change will be frowned upon, because it's not like the "great past". If we let nostalgia fully judge a new work (it can still be judged by nostalgia, but just a little), we close our minds to any new ideas and concepts, or highly criticize such new ideas to the point of swaying one's initial positive opinion. Case in point: this forum.

Weirdly BBC Two’s are better - and they didn’t even change the ident. They just worked with the top & bottom framing.

But… they can rescue this. I like the lens idea. It just needs ratcheting up. More of the lens, appearing from start to finish. At no point should it just be the scene without the lens. The other elements should keep appearing - however briefly - all the way through.

Disagree on the "worst of everything in the BBC rebrand" claim so far. It's only bad because our metric is somehow just "greater than Oneness" and nothing else. I'd say, these are really lovely idents, and it was interesting to see a concept hinted by the Christmas idents of 2021 to truly come to light. I also feel this is a better homage to the Globe idents than Circles.

Even having been told EXACTLY what the concept is and that it's DEFINITELY the same place, I still cannot see how this is supposed to be the same location. If I can't, and I'm deliberately LOOKING for the similarities, then I struggle to imagine how your standard viewer will 'get' this one.

The lens effect needs to be on screen for longer, in my opinion. You currently get only a very brief shot of some other things happening over the top of the main scene and then it's gone. It would help to get across the concept if people had more opportunity to see the three scenes concurrently, I feel.

That sums up the issue nicely - with the indoor ones especially they need to ensure there are clear features which are present in all three scenes to tie them together.
