Visually these are very much an evolution of Oneness, done much better.

I'm not sold on the soundtracks, a couple of these feel like there is something missing

It's a really good concept: how much variety you can get out of a single setting/how much variety you can find on BBC One.

Where this effect works really well:



Immediately obvious that it's the same field. The fence and trees are present throughout all three scenes and you can follow them whichever scene(s) are being shown. You can't fail to understand that it's one plot of land with different things happening on it at different times.

Where this effect falls flat:



Even having been told EXACTLY what the concept is and that it's DEFINITELY the same place, I still cannot see how this is supposed to be the same location. If I can't, and I'm deliberately LOOKING for the similarities, then I struggle to imagine how your standard viewer will 'get' this one.

The lens effect needs to be on screen for longer, in my opinion. You currently get only a very brief shot of some other things happening over the top of the main scene and then it's gone. It would help to get across the concept if people had more opportunity to see the three scenes concurrently, I feel.

This has made me realise that bits of the soundtrack from the other ident variations are appearing during the lens effect too, which adds a new layer to these that makes the link between them just a big stronger. Love it.

It's better than Oneness, but not by much. I'm underwhelmed. It's just more live action footage with other live action footage played over it. Nothing on screen apart from the logo at the bottom would make you think, "ah, this is BBC ONE". You see the curves animations and you instantly associate that with BBC TWO. Are we supposed to associate BBC ONE with a cut out in the middle of the screen with fast moving footage that is hard to associate with the surrounding imagery? I don't think the lens is a strong enough symbol/style to be effective in its current form. If they slowed down the lenses moving left and right to give you more time to see what is happening inside it, that would instantly improve them. It all happens so fast you don't know what's happening and it's just confusing to the viewer.

Having both variations of the blip playing at the same time and overlapping one another means you sometimes don't even see much of what's happening inside the lens and then its gone or covered over. It is an interesting concept, but its been executed poorly.

Enough is enough with the live action idents. The next rebrand needs to be something much, much stronger than this for the nation's flagship channel. How can they get it so right with BBC TWO and so wrong with BBC ONE?

Lens ident montage would be great if they used it for closedown. It even fits well with the national anthem if BBC One decides to revived the closedown as we last seen pre-BBC News 24 era.

Exactly. The test would be if you took away the BBC and the ONE, would you be able to tell what channel it is? My opinion would be no, you wouldn’t.

The lens and the rotation are great concepts, but the execution is sorely lacking.

Bench ident seemed nice, wish we could've seen more of it.

That news ident just screams Oneness, but with a moving camera and the people facing away from camera rather than staring gormlessly.

BBC One South West just played the Night Kayakers ident into the 10! ?

Bench (Night) seems to be very appropriate for a news-safe ident at a time like 10pm - very little going on. Background also fits the theme perfectly and the soundtrack is quite soothing. Would be very interesting to see the other 2 Bench variants to see what they hold.
