Weirdly BBC Two’s are better - and they didn’t even change the ident. They just worked with the top & bottom framing.
Massive missed opportunity.
But… they can rescue this. I like the lens idea. It just needs ratcheting up. More of the lens, appearing from start to finish. At no point should it just be the scene without the lens. The other elements should keep appearing - however briefly - all the way through.
I think it’s a missing a balloon or two and it comes through a lens or hang on I’m back to balloons :-)
Still it’s better then oneness but not a patch on balloons or the globe.

Hall: Showtime ident at BBC Two Wales really fits for music programmes. The network can be used it for BBC Last Night of the Proms or any other special music events.

Sky is rather nice - all the better for not having people in it. Always thought Oneness would be better off that way too - the sea without the swimmers for example.
The soundtracks on all the idents sounds so generic though and not the more identifiable sonic identity I was expecting them to feature. There is a feeling they're all a bit rushed too with the very brief lens capture, which I think really needs to go through another cycle. The collection BBC Press put up earlier where it is present throughout is much more effective.
I have quite an unnatural sense of relief that Oneness has gone. These idents are adaptable and will grow. They’re beautiful. And suddenly that BBC1 form-up lens, glimpsed a few months ago, makes sense. I know. Anything would have been better than Oneness. But BBC1 has become alive for me again tonight. .
Like I said, I know. I’m not like the other boys.
I really quite like what I have seen tonight.
I think before the news the bench one or Sky one could be emulated at a local level for a regional ident. Eg a bench overlooking the Tyne Bridge or Angel of the North for the North East / Night/Day time panoramic view of a region. Establishing a local landmark that would be recognisable for the regional audience.
Bench also gives me vibes of the news safe Christmas Ident from 2017.

I thought the sonic identity would be more likely to appear as an iPlayer frontcap, similar to the Netflix 'thumps'.

You know what would be nice for a news-safe ident? A series of clocks (could feature Big Ben, although non-London ones are obviously available too) cycling through morning, noon and night, with the one appropriate for the time of day being the focus like the sky one we saw before Braveheart. They could even show the clock striking the hour like some of ITN's news intros in the 90s.

It's possibly still to come? I didn't expect to see it with idents. Remember, we're still to see the various 'block-forming' animations on the telly.

Yeah. Maybe just one more cycle would make a difference.

The lens animation itself looks a little flat. Is it my imagination, or is the lens in the idents less "3D" than in the blips? I'd have preferred if the lens was more of an "object" in these idents; whereas currently it looks like a transitional effect.
Also, I definitely concur with a couple of comments upthread - I'd have preferred the lens to remain on-screen throughout. That's what I was imagining before I saw them. It harks back to the BBC globe of old, but in a modern way.

No, not your imagination. Totally agree with this. It’s much more “flat” in the idents.

I partially agree - it was blindingly obvious to me, from day 1, that what we now know as the 'lens' was meant to feature in the idents. But I didn't find its absence particularly awkward - as it was, it appeared in blips and at the start/end of trails, so it still 'made sense' to me, even in that patchwork state.
But it's nice that we now have the full package, as intended all along
Honestly, I'm just glad to see people having varied opinions over idents on BBC One now. For years we've all agreed that Oneness was bloody terrible, now we can finally start arguing over whether these idents are good or not! :lol:
