This kind of feels like a delayed evolution to the circles. They are pretty nice, I think. There is some creativity to these, where I think Oneness went wrong was that Oneness would have worked as stingers promoting uh Oneness, people together etc, versus being idents. These are simple, but not a bad simple. I do think they should have gone with a signature sound like the circles had, just to denote BBC One by sound, but otherwise they aren't bad.
The only one of the indoor idents that is easy to discern that it's the same building is the Hall idents.
I like it.
I’m not totally in love with it, but it’s a major improvement on what’s come before.
The lens almost feels like a crossover between the Circles with its obvious connection to the central motif, the Balloon with its gentle (thus far) pace, and BBC Two’s “Window on the World”. From the initial set of idents, it harks back to one of Martin Lambie-Nairn’s arguments that the BBC’s high standing and status as a quality broadcaster means it doesn’t need to be shouty, when it can simply announce its presence with an air of quiet sophistication.
I do think that the soundtrack could have been elevated somewhat with the return of Imran Hanif’s “five beeps, three notes” motif. The music seems to get a bit lost in the diegetic audio within the idents and is a little safe - dare I say it, bland - in an era where jingles like Netflix’s, and even the return of Fourscore in Channel 4’s latest package have become iconic. Imran Hanif’s motif is the perfect candidate for the channel jingle in my opinion - more simplistic and adaptable than the Rhythm and Movement and Balloon jingles, and a sound that I still associate with BBC One after 16 years.
I agree with many posters on here that this concept has real room to grow, with the potential for more ‘exciting’ lifestyle additions and the use of local landmarks. Obviously, this will come in time and all we’ve seen is the initial set, but this is a far stronger start than Oneness got off to back in 2017 with its themed idents/postcards: a “New Years resolution” exercise class video and a “New Years tradition” sea swimmers shot.
Whether it becomes as iconic as the mirror globe, balloon, red-clad dancers or the swimming hippos remains to be seen, but it’s a very promising start.
Like some of you I feel underwhelmed by the new idents. Oneness has completely put me off live action idents and this new set seems to be an evolution of what were BBC One's worst idents.
It's better than Oneness obviously, but I would have preferred them to give live action a break. However it's functional, does the job for the brand and that's what matters to the BBC.
There not great but better than before
From following along the thread I kind of like the concept. As what other members have said "one core location, three different uses or times of day" is kind of a neat device by which to hang each ident set upon. One slight criticism is that there needs to be an additional "blip" or whatever the term is towards the end of the ident to kind of 'wrap' itself up with.
With regard to the impact of these. One does have to wonder if the delay of six months - because of factors already discussed at length in the previous BBC One thread - has kind of damaged the impact of the new look. Also considering that the Lens "blip" was already in use in trails and on holding slides and so on and so forth. Has there been a subliminal numbing of any "wowness" that would have occurred by using the Lens effect but with a completely wrong set of idents (Oneness rebadged).
All in all, I would say it is a better look from the outset, in other words from the beginning. Also there seems to be tons going for it in terms of expansion with maybe more locations with further subsets. So I would say I am slightly optimistic about these and let us see what comes next.
P.S. One last question before I sign off with this entry. How is each set treated? Is it one ident being split into three or three idents in itself. So you have for instance Hall with Prenatal Class, Trampoline and Showtime. Would that be treated as one or three. Just that I would like that cleared up.

I love the new idents so far! It’s better than Oneness, even if it’s still similar to it, except for the lens, the camera angles, the soundtrack. That is just what makes it better compared to Oneness.

Oh yes! MansvsMachine! The one who made the 4Seven idents with the soundtracks that are so similar to BBC One’s new soundtracks. Echolab created 4Seven’s soundtracks, so I wonder if they made the BBC One soundtracks?
I've been trying to work out a couple of the filming locations.
The indoor arch looks like it's almost certainly the
Village Underground venue in Shoreditch - there's a pillar in front of them that's a dead giveaway.
I've spent ages scouting around on Street View for the Market arches, but I'm not entirely convinced it's not the same place, with a bunch of VFX to make it seem like it's outdoors. I'm probably going to keep looking though, because I've found two locations which are similar but not quite spot on.
The hill and the hall are quite distinctive - can anyone identity them?
What i do like about these idents is how,
Although Basic, they can be very hugely changed. Especially in terms of region. For example shown with Market Being Night in the west midlands. Or With Skaters one of the skaters could do another different trick etc.
It is nice to see that there is creativity with these idents and a lot that can be explored with them!
