Next autumn both the BBC and ITV effectively lose a month with the World Cup starting on the 21st Nov, meaning it's likely Strictly will end on the 19th and both channels have up to 12 weeks to schedule (from 3rd Sept) for the autumn rather than 16. That does mean though they have three months to schedule over the summer, but its unlikely they'd push back The Voice till then.
Well ITV does but the BBC has the Women’s Euro and a home commonwealth games to fill plenty of airtime.
I'm a Celeb could probably run alongside the World Cup for a week or two. Could still air at 9pm (or maybe 9.15pm) after the matches aired on ITV. The soaps could just air from 7-9pm on the days BBC are airing matches.

It becomes an issue when the round of 16 starts (3rd December) as they wouldn't want to risk extra time. But I think the only impact on I'm a Celeb will be it running a week or two earlier than normal.

Strictly will be hit a bit harder. As said they'll have to finish on 19th November, a full month earlier than normal. I doubt they'll start in August, I guess they'll launch at the beginning of Sept, meaning they trim 1 or 2 weeks off the series.
Will.i.am is doing the continuity announcements this evening.

Although if you think it would be wise squeezing in I’m a Celeb as normal (I personally don’t) them surely it would be easier to squeeze in Strictly

Don’t pick the Saturday night game and air as normal, and if they did pick it, air an episode on Sunday instead

In some ways, yes; in others, no.

Seems a bit harsh, certainly the audition shows are about as big as it gets for ITV on Saturday nights, normally bigger than Takeaway. Lives tail off a bit but still rate very well across the week. Will be interesting though to see where it returns, 2020 was a bit of a distortion really, with the auditions airing in the first lockdown but then the lives being delayed, changed format and not actually live. By the time it returns it will have been 3 years since its last series in normal circumstances.

Ratings had been on the slide before last year. The Champions series also didn't do that well nor was anyone particularly interested in watching the Xmas special.

The focus of the show seems to have shifted from Joe Public doing a turn to professional acts and more spectacle (magic, stunts etc) which is fair enough but these types of acts can up their game. Singers, for example, struggle. You end up with a final like last year with half of the acts being magicians. Figures will only go down if that continues.

The ratings had only gone down a little bit, certainly nothing more than wider TV audience declines. The 2019 series still did very well, enough to make it ITV’s biggest Saturday night show. Champions & Xmas were lower, but they weren’t the regular series so not really indicative. It’s like how the Celebrity & Xmas Bake Offs rate far lower than the main series.

Do agree they’ve shifted slightly too far in that direction. Probably, I suspect, to try and distinguish from all the singing shows on air, but with X Factor gone and The Voice scaled back there’s less reason to do that now. I think the 2020 final lineup was distorted by the irregular voting format, with the public voting without knowing the results from the previous shows. I doubt so many magicians would have gone through under normal circumstances.

Although I suspect we’ll see far fewer stunt acts (and possibly none at all) moving forwards after what sounds like a horrible accident a couple of days ago on the set of new spin-off, America’s Got Talent: Extreme: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/16437422/agt...tman-head/

Hope he makes a full recovery but that sounds awful.
Funny how we used to complain about too many singers and dancers on BGT and a few years on it is completely the opposite problem. Overall though the mix for the five semi finals and in the edit of the auditions is generally pretty much right - guess we largely have ourselves to blame for the final line up.
I guess it's not really the fault of the magicians that they are able to surprise viewers each time because that's essentially what their act is and it's no wonder they get votes. All of those who made the final last year would probably still have got there even if viewers did know who was getting through because it is difficult for other acts to improve. If a singer tried to play the audience they'd have no chance.
Might be a case for scrapping strictly Sunday results show however

Agree, I actually think they do a much better job with the mix these days than in the early years, when they were far too heavy on singers and dancers, because they struggled to get decent comedians and magicians to enter. The one issue with the final is that the semis tend to be a bit uneven, not in terms of the mix of genres but quality-wise. Normally there are one or two particularly strong shows and at least one dud, so they don’t always get the best 10 in the final.

I don’t think they would have all made it, if nothing else because the producers would have done a better job of manipulating it so that the mix was better, if they’d been getting ‘live’ results. I highly doubt Magical Bones would have topped a public vote in his semi final, so that’s one down, and Jasper Cherry probably wouldn’t have made the cut either. Given that he won the series Jon Courtenay would probably have still won that semi, so I imagine the judges would have chosen a non-magic act for their choice, seeing how the lineup was shaping up.

Don’t forget as well that Simon is normally the one most in favour of singers, so his absence probably changed the balance a bit.

That's so true, and something they manage every year. It's usually also obvious beforehand when you see the line ups announced, so not just the case of acts under performing one night and over performing another.
The Void axed.

Perhaps being too similar to Gladiators, Ninja Warrior etc was part of its downfall but it's the type of physical gameshow that ITV need.

Interesting to see what else they choose not to recommission. The Cube? Epic Gameshow? Game of Talents?
I would hope they go back to Ninja Warrior now things have relaxed considering it repeats so well - they've just started another Sunday afternoon rerun. They kind of axed it pre-covid but never officially announced they had.
Not massively surprised about The Void. It felt like a pale imitation of what had come before with nothing particularly new about it, and the ratings reflected that. Also I know it was unavoidable but those shows are flat as a pancake without an audience. They'd definitely be better bringing Ninja Warrior back although I wonder if they might try another new format instead.

I think The Cube might go. Now that larger scale productions are more viable, BGT back on the schedule and the added sport in 2022, they can afford to be quite selective about what they bring back, and The Cube's numbers have been really poor. I know it's against Strictly but it does considerably worse than the shows around it.

I think Epic Gameshow will probably get another series although I wonder if they might look to spin one or two of the formats out eventually rather than continuing with Epic Gameshow in the longer term?

Game of Talents is probably 50/50, if it does return my guess is it would be for the Summer, so it'll depend on what else they've got planned. masked Dancer rated better but renewing that risks oversaturation of the Masked brand.
Didn't they also commission a Christmas Special? I can imagine that'll end up in an afternoon slot (see Cannonball from a few years ago) or maybe they'll just place it in the 6pm slot to start a December Saturday evening.

Agree about Ninja Warrior, it's a great format that they really should return too. I did notice another repeat run at the weekend too, which - much like the 2 they repeated last year in early peak - is an odd decision if indeed they have swung the axe.
