I don't think they'll bother with any kind of send-off for the Oneness idents. Even the Circles package didn't get a proper farewell, despite having been used for just over 10 years.

That would be fitting but highly doubt it, Sea swimmers got retired because it was just inappropriate for many shows and it's the grossest ident out of the entire Oneness package. I don't think there will be any send off, I don't think Balloon and Circles got a send-off either

The last Balloon ident broadcast on BBC One showed the balloon landing, which I guess is a close to a send-off we got. Comments on that video mention something about NI having a better send-off but I'm not sure where the video is.

I hope not, i couldn’t believe it was an idea in the first place and for the BBC’s main channel it wasn’t even appropriate when bad things happened.
To be fair (and I'm no fan of the current set up), 'Oneness' grew out of a Christmas campaign which actually worked quite well. Contextually, I think it's fair to say there was a certain division in society at the time and the idea of coming together at Christmas worked quite well. Where I think it went off the rails was trying to emulate Martin Parr's photographic style as a kind of visual text. It has always struck me that there's a nice idea behind the idents but actually, for a flagship channel, it just comes across as a bit wishy-washy and certainly lacking in a 'creative concept'.
I don't think the idea and ethos of the Oneness campaign is bad – just the execution. The Christmas Day Oneness idents which kicked it off were very nicely shot and creatively made, and had a real warmth about them. If they'd continued in this style with the regular idents, I don't think they'd be hated anywhere near as much on here.

I've just noticed that there's a leitmotif in the music of those idents - though I assume the announcer's probably talked over it, so the audience couldn't hear it well

I was talking about the Balloon idents, not the Dancers.
Although, that is a good example of what would be considered a 'good' send-off, with a montage of some of the idents in the set.

The general consistency in the Dancers idents with everything having a red colour scheme and the identifiable leitmotif is why that ident set is one of my favourites from BBC One, and I really hope the upcoming rebrand has something similarly consistent to identify itself with.

I think everyone knew the tune for the dancers idents, it was even remixed into a dance track called Forever and a Day (specifically the festival ident).
Announcer or not you could hear enough of it to at least know the first bar generally.

I really don't think getting rid of a logo altogether on BBC One is a good idea for them right now. They need a strong symbol or hook or really
anything that isn't Oneness or worse.

[mention]Lyric W.[/mention] if I remember rightly the letmotif you mention in that series of idents went something like this at its core. I remember someone asking for the notation once in a discussion of these over on the Blue Place because the soundtracks to them all seemed to riff off of each other and had certain amounts of overlaps musically speaking and the notation that someone brought up stuck in my mind ever since.
