Really does look weird not seeing the "News" wordmark alongside the logo.

I have completed the survey that is being referred to in previous posts and have seen the proposed logo/animation and graphics for BBC TWO. Very interesting. I wonder if it is something that is going to be repeated for all channels and then the other presentation frames it so keep consistency?
A very interesting thing from it is the new logos for most of the services like News, Weather, Sounds and most importantly iPlayer - these logos are going to really set the cat amongst the pigeons. It's very different than what we have seen from the BBC before, and people are going to love it or hate it, if indeed this is what they are going to go live with. The 3 blocks for the BBC letters basically carries over into everything, they all get new motifs that use the 3 blocks in some way or another. It's clever in some respects but will be very interesting to see how they will be received by the public. It's a big change. Probably bigger than most people were expecting.

I'd say that looks okay, even though there's no rebranded BBC News logo in sight (yet). I just can't wait to see if this rebrand brings brand unification for once...
I'm not sure if it's the animation or the extension of the three-blocks motif, or even just the fact I'm seeing more of it over time) but I think this logo is growing on me. That being said, mould and fungi also grow on things. :lol:
(also I'm glad they're sticking with the Curve idents - out of curiosity was the TWO wordmark a new font or is it just the blocks that have changed?)
There seems to be brand unification in the logos used for core services (they all look similar but with differences, think what Microsoft do for the Office programs) and what the end board looks like seems to be what will be used across all channels and then the animation/logo for the channel comes in at the end to enable a transition to an iPlayer sting and enforce the channel identity, basically what BBC 2 and Channel 5 do already. It is nice to see that the BBC blocks move a lot and morph into various things to create a bit of flow. Reminds me slightly of the 2013 ITV rebrand where they made sure things lined up to look seamless as they transitioned between endboard, ident, promo slide etc. It is slick but it is very different when compared to what we currently have from the BBC.
The only thing shown was the BBC TWO logo (with blocks and TWO in Reith) which appears full screen before smoothly dissolving into a current BBC TWO ident but the BBC blocks shrink down and are now centred at the top of the screen and the TWO shrinks down and is centred at the bottom. If that is how they are going to have the idents for all 4 channels it's a bold choice. It might have been something done simply for the promo video or it might be what the idents will actually look like now. I'm dying to see what they have planned for BBC ONE. If they keep this modern, slick presentation around for ONE it would certainly help give it a more modern and not as stuffy image. Interesting times lie ahead!

Sure people can change their minds over time, but I don't think that any of my favourite pieces of graphic design are things that I simply 'got used to'.

Rather surprised by this response. My post wasn't aimed at you, it was merely my thoughts generally about changes made to established logos. You're welcome to your view about the changes, which you have made clear, and I'm welcome to mine. As you were.
I’m just enjoying the notion that one set of blocks with letters in them is some sort of design masterpiece, whereas another set of blocks with letters in them is a horrific affront to taste and decency.
The app looks neat, and the animations of the logo look great. As someone who has historically been pretty anti most things the BBC does, I think what we have seen so far is very promising.
In summer 1997, I was working in ad sales for a directory publishing company.
I remember like it was yesterday seeing the new BBC logo due for launch in the Autumn for the first time on the cover of a trade mag (can't remember which one tbh).
I was blown away by its simplicity, elegance, and timelessness.
Sorry to be a hater but this doesn't have those qualities.
And the swiping graphics look like those from a million and one mobile phone apps and gestures I have seen elsewhere.
Yawn.

Because famously all typefaces are very interchangeable. That's why Monotype's slogan is 'typography doesn't matter'.
