Search for “BBC” and search for “difference between corporation and company”. Search for “UK company law”.

I don't doubt that it is important, I am just not sure whether the right place to discuss it is in the New BBC Logo thread. Referring to it as a fun debate, for which I was clearly being somewhat facetious, was merely a light-hearted attempt to move the thread back towards the topic after over a page worth of posts discussing the finer points of British corporate law.

I'd argue that Top of the Pops broke that rule before North West Tonight did...

Huh? North West Tonight’s well predates that?

For someone who want discuss the corporate law, Metropol is the right place.

My mistake. I thought you were referring to these titles...

Quite. This is a television forum, let's get back to the topic at hand please.
I now wish that I'd never included within my post an aside about what a forcibly-commercialised BBC's legal company name might be, given all of the off-topic stuff that has ensued.

And also that it seemingly rendered the other 90% of what I wrote in that post as a total sodding waste of my keystrokes, as unnoticed as many a niche digital channel's entire short lifespan. Harrumph.

I'm still not a fan of the smaller, bolder letters in the revised blocks. Whether I'll eventually warm to them remains to be seen.
Both the 90s and 2008 North West Tonight aren't a great advert for the introduction of generic identies, although I guess 2008 shows that doing something within the framework of a generic look can work very well.

Back to the teaser clip and having played it on the main TV now I think the opening BBC Two full screen logo would work fine as an occassional bumper, but they really need to rethink how they incorporate the logo into the idents. The bigger the screen the worse it looks - and the same goes for the BBC News DOG, but I think the logo reveal part works really well, but they need to animate back to the BBC News logo from the icon at the end as well IMO.

Side note about that clip... "We've lost count of the number of times people have asked us 'who is she?' and 'which school does she go to?'... How utterly creepy. :?
The whole clip is like a weird parody.
it's funny how those things date - looking at those 2004 TOTP titles again with a fresh set of 2021 eyes - what a mess - they haven't aged well. I'm not sure if I remember thinking they ever looked good - TOTP was in it's death-throes by then, I suppose.

both of these for me, both look great even today!

No way. The 1991 one looks like it belongs on a show about classical music, not pop. And the previous one screams 1980s.

That's lovely. Big Grin

The second one would be perfect for BBC News.

Well, not to my perspective, but I respect your opinion.

How this was never rolled out across News is beyond me - it still looks really elegant. I love the simplicity of the endcap for the News titles.

Moving back to the new logo - I've become a fan, actually. I think when you see it on paper, it definitely looks like a downgrade from what we have currently, most likely just because we're so used to it. But when animating, this new logo comes alive - I love the way it bounces around. It's definitely more 'accessible' for younger audiences, and does away with the old-fashioned view of the BBC being stuffy and boring.

The icons are exciting too. I also did the survey and found myself being surprised at how radical this is going to be, if it does indeed roll out. I like the iPlayer, Sounds and Weather icon, as well as the Bitesize one. They all seem fairly understandable. News and Sport is a little harder to grasp as they just don't scream 'NEWS' or 'SPORT'. However, there's help with the colour coding system (red = news, yellow = sport, pink = iPlayer, etc) which I think will help. And I imagine the icon will always be seen ALONGSIDE the BBC logo?

Very exciting!

I don't understand, how can a bouncing logo become more accessible for younger audiences? I am a young person and the BBC has always been accessible to me. Also in what way the BBC is stuffy and boring?
