I think they should keep the name as BBC One, BBC Two, etc.....
I am surprised how many people have said the current logo is outdated, it has always been outdated!

I remember the day it launched, with no prior knowledge, I thought it looked as if it had come from the 1940s! But that was the point it was meant to be timeless and I still think it is.

What's more it is iconic. Obviously it's meant to be because it's a logo, but I guarantee it's one that could be easily recognised by the vast majority of the world.

I do think they could have just switched typefaces and saved a fortune on replacing signage and branding elsewhere. But on the other hand the Gill Sans logo would always be popping up or left behind. It still will but possibly that's why this new logo is different enough.

It's clearly not the best thought out of new logos, it potentially re introduces some of the problems that have been previously removed. The lettering doesn't fit the boxes as well so looks a bit more amateurish. The fact the boxes are so padded doesn't look great but then we're used to that not being the case.

But as with the first time I saw that 1997 logo, this one will eventually seem right. I'm just not sure that they needed to do this when the BBC is becoming less relevant and appreciated for a lot of people...
I will probably have my right to live in the UK revoked because of this, but I actually like most letters in Sans Reith and Sans-Serif Reith - the letters in the logo should be bigger IMO, but it actually looks alright.

I am completely fine with your opinion mate!

They’re both just letters in boxes. The 1997 logo wasn’t some sort of timeless masterpiece, we’re all just used to it.

This just isn't true, though. The two logos are aesthetically different and will appeal to different people's aesthetic sensibilities. No doubt there are some who oppose out of a knee-jerk small-c conservatism and will eventually oppose the next change, but there are others who really don't like the design of the new logo. I, for one, profoundly disagree with your statement that the existing logo isn't a masterpiece. For me it it is one of the greatest logos out there, it is a thing of beauty that manages to combine a richness and simplicity. I shall mourn its passing. I'm sure there are others who deeply love the cheapness, shoddiness and '1* Gallery mock' vibe that the new logo evokes.

Also 'they're both just letters in boxes' is not just an incredibly reductive thing to say, it also suggests you don't really understand what this place is. Everything on this TV presentation forum could be reduced to a 'they're just the bits inbetween the programmes' attitude if you really wanted. After all, who needs to discuss idents, logos or astons when, on a universal perspective, it's all meaningless.

Perhaps the 31st? Tongue

One thing I do hope is that all channels and radio stations, and website will adopt a standard design and match up.

I suspect it's the 4th, which would be a cruel irony if it turns out to be true

At 6.11, next to "BBC ONE", "BBC TWO", and "BBC WORLD" is "BBC EXPLORER".

This is news to me - anyone in the know?

I wanted to ask that once myself - but I think I backed out, and I can't remember why
I kind of understand the font change as it looks a little weird where everything is a new font apart from the main logo itself.

What I don't understand, and I look forward to the marketing BS, is why they made the font size so small? I can't think of a good reason, only disadvantages? How would the word "NEWS" lineup with the tiny 'BBC' lettering without making the rectangles absolutely massive?
