I got Sport the wrong way round and mashed Bitesize up a little. But as for memorability, I think they’re pretty good once you know what they are.

Seeing the icons now (and already making a
a decent attempt at a simple intro for the new iPlayer logo in The Gallery), I actually like the idea of using the boxes as a navigational tool, as while the public already associates the 3 blocks with the BBC, likewise when they realise what services they are they'll soon get used to it. Sounds are sound waves, iPlayer is a play button formed by the 3 blocks, Sport is what I'm assuming to be a podium and Bitesize is the form of 3 books, one obviously shifting like dominoes.
It's actually pretty smart and is a modern approach to the BBC's main core brands. The logo will take some time to get used to, but they deliberately modified it to be square so that they could easily do these smart icons.

I don’t think you’re trying! Which BBC service has red straps? Which one has yellow straps. Which catch up service has pink lettering, which has an orange S, which has a blue app logo. I’m not sure what the last purple one is.

I don’t think you’re trying! Which BBC service has red straps? Which one has yellow straps. Which catch up service has pink lettering, which has an orange S, which has a blue app logo. I’m not sure what the last purple one is.
Presumably the online learning platform that currently uses purple as it's secondary colour.

If BBC2 stick with the split logo I think it would probably look better if centred vertically rather than horizontally (or is it vice versa?), so the BBC logo is where the promo text usually is and the TWO on the right. However I think with what they're going with the BBC logo will generally be centred on the screen horizontally - the blocks animation wouldn't work as well if it wasn't.
From what I saw, it looks like the BBC logo will be centred at the top of the screen, quite large, with TWO at the bottom of the screen somewhat smaller. I also saw a BBC Sounds trailer endboard which followed this format, so I’d expect this style to be rolled out across most, if not all, services.

I performed the same test on my wife and she:
a) Didnt notice any difference to the BBC logo, until putting them side by side where she said "oh yeah, it's a bit more spaced out /shrug"
b) Didnt know what any of the icons meant until told that they represented the services and
c) Got about 50% of them correct when I asked "which of these means iPlayer" etc
Not drawing any conclusions from that sample of one.
I suspect the research being conducted is more like "What level of recognition to the icons get when completely unprompted" rather than "should we roll out these icons in exactly this way in the future".

It’s an interesting strategy. If anything in this multi platform world I’d have thought pushing “BBC” was more important.

Like when the BBC One and BBC Two refers to their channel as "Now on One" or Now on Two" by continuity announcer which was often used until 1993.
