Not sure if it's just a temporary problem but Nick said he'll be on Sky News from 7pm this evening, but Leah Boleto was in the glass box for the opener.

Its interesting to watch SkyNews try to do rolling storm coverage. WIth the live video bar on the left side of the screen. SO they only seem to be showing the planes landing at Heathrow. (Well 90% of the time they are showing a cut up tree with the branches missing. So actually its not very interesting, missed opportunity) In theory it was a good idea. I like the idea of bringing live pictures from across the country. This is why I always thought it was a good idea to have a sponsored network of live camera across the country in the major cities that can be pulled up and used to supplement the broadcasts. The Weather Channel has a deal with EarthCam to use their network of LIVE cameras. With a country with more CCTV than most, it shouldnt be a problem.

There are other things I would have done. But its a interesting to seem them try. They should have a scheduled double-headed presenting for the day. They should have had a meteorologist in-studio giving out information rather than the journalists. (Just a personal choice) I think they should have had a correspondence at a dedicated travel desk in the newsroom on top of the travel disruption. It would add a bit of urgency to the story. And at the top of the broadcast they should have done a correspondent locator map to show where they have cameras and reporters. Also I would have had the meteorologist at the top giving the lastest. Instead she appeared 13 minutes into the broadcast live from her back garden with a bad connection. That was mistake. That was a bit strange. I was kinda surprised they used a taped report from London, a major city, the capital, rather than have the correspondent live.
Sadly I noticed when the correspondents dont have a script you start getting the halting, start stop, style of speaking. Ekkk. But at least they tried. Hopefully the damage wont be too bad for Greater London for Historic first Red Alert for the Capital.

Still some problems with the Westminster studio? Nick Quraishi hosting Sky News Tonight again from the Glass Box and Breakfast was co-anchored with Sally Lockwood on location for Storm Eunice, but Kamali had a lie in and was at the Glass Box (not Westminster) for the other news.

Yes a good idea to show planes landing at Heathrow. And,- as everyone knows- not theirs! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery etc, but a quite poor version of what Big Jet TV were doing so successfully.

Also worth noting that Belle Donati did the midnight hour too (technically the entire thing, although of course the Press Preview was the 22:30 edition). What with it being half term and a number of presenters being on location...

I thought Sky News may have taken the opportunity to drop the Covid 19 info screens before the TOTH. Updates on the Ukraine situation would surely be more current now.

Someone listening at Sky? Covid info gone and replaced by Ukraine images where the pictures do the talking. Very effective.

Do Sky always have ‘something’ filling that gap between the hour close/ending and the last ad break of the hour? Or was it introduced to give COVID info? The various covid slides have been there that long I can’t remember what went before!

It was originally introduced at the early stage of covid, because it was a good public service and it also allowed an extra minute at the end of each hour for the gallery workstations to be cleaned for the changeover of producer, director and co-director.

Has anyone noticed that whenever they zoom into their virtual map, the whole screen pixelates. I’ve only really noticed the pattern as I’ve had Sky News on pretty much all week. At first I thought it was my Sky signal

Not sure I’ve noticed tbh. I’ll keep an eye out.
