Why not keep the same safe area as before at the bottom? Just think they're covering up more of the picture than they need to.
That area is certainly higher than it was before 7am today. Even when they introduced it then, I thought it was too high and should be lowered slightly.
If you watch on the UK or Ireland feeds of Sky News, the clock looks well positioned, but viewers to Sky News International have the . com badly spaced.
I think with this revamp that this is designed for viewers with mobiles and tablets than those watching via linear platforms on a tv, just like the website where those using touchscreen devices come first as on a television, it's all a bit too big.
Watching it on Youtube on a 24" full screen the graphics just seem to take up too much space, it looks slightly less bad on the TV but the white area is still too big. I've added the black bar to make it obvious where the screen capture starts. The white section including the ticker looks the same size as the straps.
Also the Sky News .com logo is in white rather than in the gradient, which has previously been mentioned.
Like you say it comes across like a website with oversized buttons and links designed for touchscreen first and keyboard and mouse second. Yes, there was a need to make it bigger, but they could have done that, just not quite so much and coupled with lowercase text, it would have still been a vast improvement on mobile devices. I feel we've gone from being too small, to being too big, and the ideal spot is somewhere between the two.
Interesting new look, it’s quite a mishmash of new and 1990s design trends.
News at Ten... keeps the same clock face intro, updated with the blue, then extended to follow another gold section to the title text.
The clock intro stays at the start, the music that plays during the title card instead plays over the outside shot of the Glass Box

News at 10 TOTH as we expected is different to other ones and I have to say I really like it. They've made this different for a flagship program but it also fits in well with the overall relaunch. The differences are subtle but work really well. Top marks again.
Can't say the same for the straps however, grainy,. like an image being shown on a low resolution screen, supposed to be hands of a clock but ends up looking a bit messy. The opposite of clean that the other ones look. Not a fan. Can see the idea they had, but just doesn't work.

I don't think that it's grainy as such - it's the texture of the hands of the clock coupled with the light reflection effect they've put on it.

I know that is the idea behind it, just the result isn't to my taste at all. I think the idea has merit, but with it zoomed in that much it is a little too busy. if the texture is made a little bit simpler I think it works. Sometimes less is more.
The rest of the straps look great, nice and clean and sharp and also the various branded shows have their own identity, without being too busy, which really is excellent and kudos to those who developed them - they did an excellent job.
I much prefer these graphics and gradients used compared to the red, especially the blue from Tonight.
I’ve watched bits through the day. I like the mix of music and prefer how it has an ending at the top of the hour rather than fading into the headlines. I like the long shot of the glass box used, but feel that it still misses a voiceover. I would have preferred to have seen a different layout for the straps as I’m not a fan of the large red section to the left that differs in size. They look like they were made in high quality but on freeview it doesn’t give me the wow that the HD variant would.
…and the pointless Press Preview strap survives… albeit with a ‘News at Ten’ title rather than a ‘Press Preview’ one.

It's been changed to news@sky.com for the paper review at 10:30pm.
Press Preview, has a title card after the BOTH headlines... No specific strap just yet, using a News at Ten strap (although it's gone a slightly wrong), with the details (now using the correct email address compared to news@sky earlier).

And one of the updated newspaper slide.

Music glitch and headline image reappeared before going to Nial.
9pm doesn't feel any different from pre-refresh lower thirds aside, just a static shot of Niall zoomed in at a desk.
Is 9pm one of the few unbranded hours? I always thought before they dropped the "Live at Five" branding they should introduce "Live at Nine" as well with them being the two flagship bulletins of the evening.
Why do they call their early morning show Breakfast? That's the same name as the BBC's show. What was wrong with Sunrise?
