I don't dislike Schofe by any means, but does anyone know the rationale behind him being chosen to (co-)present a programme about the death of a member of the royal family?

I think it's more a programme about the life of a member of the Royal Family, he's handled other royal events with aplomb and he's a familiar and popular face.

Because Phillip and Julie have presented all the Royal Weddings of the last decade (and I think the Jubilee as well) and bringing him in softens the programme from being yet another two hours of news to a more informal format. It's clear this show will be more about personal memories of the Duke rather than the formalities of the days events.

I've always regarded Martine as a very under-rated presenter. She has a very classy understated style and she certainly handled the news with a great deal of distinction.

Loving the use of the ITV News studio for the programme and its general tone seems appropriate.

It's a shame ITV News don't do this more often. It's happened a few times in the regions and they've clearly got a template which can be relatively easily updated, but this is perhaps the first time I've seen it done for the national news. It's very effective. I wonder if News at Ten will take those titles as well or if they can amend their shots.

I wonder if BBC One or BBC Two will show the Royal Salute or will be solely ITV?

Agreed, a pared back version of the music would have worked well too, featuring the opening clarion call (as it's always reminded me a bit of 'the last post'). My suspicion is that these titles were prepared well in advance rather than put together today though.
