Has anyone noticed a significant drop in third party advertising across the Sky Channels portfolio and a consequential increase in own promos since mid October.

Can't say I've been watching much this year, but in previous years I've noticed a dip in 3rd party ads around October and then an increase in the latter half of November. Presumably companies reduce their ad spend now in order to be able to spend more closer to Christmas?

I'd like to bring to light - and because I couldn't find a better thread to put this on - that the History Channel here in the US has redone how it looks:



In theory, Sky History in the UK should follow suit, right?

That looks good, can see Sky tweaking the Sky History logo to complement the new logo.
They need to keep their current idents though. As for graphics, they could match whatever the US has, just with Sky's corporate font

I think (Sky) History has some of the best graphics, at least here in EMEA.

It'd be sad to lose them because of a new logo..

Then again, there's no video of the new look from the US other than images of the new logo, so it seems scarce atm. No word on who worked on it either

Here's a mock-up of what I think Sky History's logo would look with the new History logo and wordmark added.
Don't upload this on Logopedia pls as I know the people there would be silly enough to think this is official.

That's probably accurate. Considering the way the Sky logos animate they probably won't even need to replace the idents, just update the logo. I wonder what the new H2 logo will look like?

I've just heard that Sky have begun a SD switch off on their Sky boxes. 3 channels from Sky Cinema in SD were switched off on the Sky platform. Sky Cinema Comedy, Sky Cinema Drama & Sky Camera Thriller are now in HD only on the Sky EPG.

I thought to be honest they'd already done that with Sky Cinema and Sky Sports but obviously not.

Sky Cinema is HD as standard, but a premium for sport and entertainment.

Sky Sports ditched the extra charge for HD a while ago. The basic channels still require an extra payment for HD on top of the Sky Signature package.

There really can't be that many old Sky Digiboxes in operation, Sky is looking at the return of investment in operating the SD simulcasts and in the case of Sky Cinema there is little to gain from continuing to run SD simulcasts when the entire service has gone HD as standard. +1's being closed is well in line with Sky seeing the idea of a timeshift channel being superseded by Catch up TV

They have already closed some SD and +1 channels before their latest round of SD closures this week. I'm sure there's more to come as well.

It's interesting that it's only now in 2022 that they consider it worthwhile to ditch the SD movie channels which suggests they did still have a sizeable movie subscriber base that was using the old digiboxes up until fairly recently, and that presumably means there's an even larger number of basic subscribers that are still using SD boxes. So I guess the remaining SD channels will be around for some time yet.

Yeah I'd imagine they'll keep Premiere and a few others up for a long while until the cost outweighs the gains of keeping SD simulcasts on air.

I think sports and the Sky Basics will keep on going with an SD simulcast for a long time to come although I'd be 100% certain that the long term plan is to switch them off when SD box usage has dwindled to an all time low
