They remain as 'Sky One' recordings. Any old recording will always have the name of the channel at the time of broadcast.

I still have recordings from the old 'Sky Movies Free Weekends' they used to run 11 years ago. Oddly, they are listed as being on 'Sky Showcase' as that was the channel they always used for those events. We've gone full circle, again!

Surely there’ll need to be a bit of signposting, for people following Sky One shows on 106 (yes, there are still those of us who watch on linear, I know we’re a dying breed) telling people that they can now find such shows on Sky Max channel 113? Maybe the simulcasting is a bit of an attempt to pre-emptively address “where’s my favourite show gone?” queries?

Smart. People will likely tune to Sky One's channel number, 106, which will now be Sky Showcase. If they go there instead of Sky Max by mistake, they won't miss those shows. And they can advertise the channel changes during them.

That is literally the point of the channel though, to simulcast content from across the entertainment portfolio.

But that literally replicates the point of their constantly promoted catch-up service. It's not just 'belt and braces', but also two pairs of trousers and two shoes on each foot. :?

Even then, looking at what has been reported with the scheduling of the new Sky Showcase... I don't see a major difference compared to Sky One and the new channel. It feels like the same meat but different packaging. Although, being that it is a "showcase" of the Sky channels, at least the flagship channel has some sort of purpose being that it now also airs US dramas and comedies already being aired by Sky Witness/Atlantic/Comedy, despite those channels already choking Sky One to death with little content besides what Sky One has produced in the last few years.

Still not a fan of the name though. I'd rather they'd go back to the days of "Sky Channel" or just calling it "Sky" which wouldn't confuse the viewer at all even though nowadays, because Sky "Channel" enforces it's the center piece or crown jewel of the Sky network of channels, it seems they promote their shows under "Sky" anyway, no sub brands or channels listed. A Twitter ad I seen basically had one of the Sky One shows marked as just "Sky".

I disagree, I think overall Sky is making a good move, especially once The Simpsons rights (etc.) will go to the bin.
And I don't understand what people were expecting from Showcase in the first place, since that's a mixture of contents from all channels, be either simulcast or repeats, not dissimilar to Sky Sports Main Events in concept.

They're obviously keeping Sky Showcase for a window for the Sky channels that are not in the main three positions: Atlantic and Witness.

Obviously, they think Sky Max, Sky Comedy etc. content need a bigger push and more visibility

I'm just saying that many probably haven't got what Sky Showcase is supposed to do in the first place, which is of course showcasing the best of Sky offering in the first place, but also still acting like a defacto pseudo-"Sky One" (which is far from being dead) in a way, given the high EPG position, which is a mixture of the "newer" Sky Max (as a "laxer" Sky Showcase/One), but also a mixture of the channels which are not in the three high EPG positions on Sky (including the upcoming Sky Max), which is what becomes clear by looking at the schedules.
I don't think they'll play too much Witness and especially Atlantic

They've obviously have realized that, in spite of the fact On Demand has become more frequent, the revenue on the linear channels acting as "barkers" is still there, and Sky Comedy, the upcoming Sky Max, but also Documentaries, Nature and Crime, to a lesser extent, feel sadly hidden, especially because of their EPG positions.

For me, Sky Showcase is a rather good name for this, Sky Channel would make you believe this is the "main" absolute channel, but it's not the case, it's just again.. a mixture of their main content
Naming it Sky Channel would inevitably make it more important than Sky Max, Witness, Living, Documentaries and so on

It has echoes of the agreement regarding Pat Robertson and The 700 Club, with a contractual requirement for all future owners of The Family Channel (basically Fox and Disney) to show The 700 Club. Although if memory serves Freeform advise their viewers to switch off whilst it’s on.

The Hour of Power has had the Sunday 6:00am slot on Sky One for as long as I can remember. I’d say the agreement to show The Hour of Power must be similar in vein, but you’d have thought closing Sky One would have allowed them to end that agreement. Clearly not if it’s staying on Sky Showcase.
