Does Showcase run different ad breaks when 'simulcasting' a show?

Why? The Simpsons certainly isn't Sky Showcase's raison d'etre.

People are getting too hung up on daytime, people are only watching in primetime and that's when the channel is serving the purpose it was launched for. As I said earlier in the thread this would appear to be an attempt by Sky to maximise what's left in linear advertising revenue by having a packed schedule at the top of their EPG that collates all the new shows from their otherwise fragmented channels whose linear ratings have dropped significantly over the years. The channel is unlikely to be going anywhere any time soon.
Excellent point about daytime, that applies to the majority of channels. A good example is Sky Crime, where in primetime it’s new programmes about killers, but in the morning it’s old stuff like Road Wars and Nothing to Declare.
Why are people assuming that Sky Showcase is temporary?

Are you mad? Big Grin .. Sky wouldn't spend so much money on a change like that (not just a "HQ" silly addition) that's temporary.

Moreover, the fact that Simpsons has its days counted IS one of the reasons the channel exists.

Yes, the channel is heavily focused on primetime, as most channels are, but still, the loss of The Simpsons would've made Sky One more repetitive, so they thought it was better to replace Sky One with something with another purpose, which focuses on the other channels, so that they can "justify" the repeats.
And Sky Max eventually can have more repeats because of it being a "new" channel.

But there's also another obvious reason for the split: promoting the other Sky channels, especially those in the second/third pages of the EPG some people fail to look at
By temporary I mean 6-9 months as some people suggested..

Then, the channel might fail or not, probably not IMO.

At the same time, what they're doing, is not something that wouldn't work.
I mean, many people will start continuing thinking that either Sky Showcase or Sky Max have replaced Sky One.. especially Showcase, as it's on LCN 106.

And we're living in a streaming world, these days, linear channels are not their main priority

You know that Sky 3's last logo didn't even last a month, right?

Showcase in and of itself fills a massive gap in the reach of Sky's channels. There will be people who won't go beyond the first page of the Sky guide. Not to mention, Sky has been trying to fill the gaps left by a bunch of once prominent channels that have either closed, absorbed into Sky or just provide lesser value. The EPG has felt a lot more bare for pay channels in general. Its no wonder why they have launched a raft of services and split Sky One into two.

I doubt that there are many people paying a Sky subscription who don't venture beyond the first page of the EPG. That would rather be like buying a house and living in a tent in the front garden.

Catch-up downloads are surely their focus now, rather than the likes of 'Sky Simulcast'.

Far from being the same thing.
After 10 days, they have finally corrected the error on the EPG Home Page thumbnail graphic. They have swapped Max for Showcase at 106.

Perhaps someone at Sky has been reading this thread? Big Grin

Just a hunch, but I doubt it'll find an audience beyond The Simpsons and whatever simulcasts or films they choose to put on. That'll prompt Sky to shuffle Comedy or something up and let it languish until they decide to bin it off entirely.

I don't doubt the intention is there for it to be permanent, I just don't think it'll last long after The Simpsons disappears.

Not sure what time of day that EPG is supposed to be from? Not sure Channel 4 News (Presumably) and 5 News are on at the same time!
As long as Showcase does the job of attracting viewers to either the linear versions of the other Sky channels or the VOD content they offer, then it's job done.

The Simpsons is there because Sky don't have the VOD pay rights to it. It's a linear tv only contract which is likely to be left to Channel 4 who have the FTA rights (and some VOD on All4) leaving pay tv viewers the option to subscribe to Disney+ to see the whole back catalogue and if Sky don't renew/Disney decide not to, the new stuff will also go on the platform.
Not sure if this is the most appropriate thread but watching the end of The Wizard of Oz on Sky Cinema just now and caught a brief flash of a copyright warning at the very end of the film before a trailer.

Would Sky have sourced the copy from a retail copy of the film or something? Seems weird to include that on something intended for broadcast... The message is the standard sort of thing you'd see on a retail DVD about for "private viewing" etc
Another curiosity - the Sky Sports Box Office channels on Sky Q (491/492) are showing the BT Sport Box Office EPG thumbnails
Popping this here, not worth a separate thread.

Has anyone noticed a significant drop in third party advertising across the Sky Channels portfolio and a consequential increase in own promos since mid October.
