Didn't they have Sky Movies Max at one point too?

They did, it may have been originally Sky Moviemax as I recall.

It was Sky MovieMax - introduced in 1998 when Sky Digital began, then in 2002 it became Sky Movies Max, and a year later it (along with Sky Movies Premier) was replaced with Sky Movies 1-9.

I have incredibly mixed feelings about this, mainly for how many years the brand has been around and happy memories of watching it over the years; however, I can’t say that I’ve been a regular viewer for a while now (mainly as I now only have Now to watch it on), but I have watched a few recent programmes on demand. I understand why they’re doing it to fit in with their other brands and as recent owners Comcast have no loyalty to the brand.
I’m surprised that the news has gone down so well on here, I’d expect it would be different if the name BBC One was changed, but as others have said it’s more about the push for on demand viewing and having a shop window through linear TV to attract casual viewers.

I have moved the posts discussing Peacock to the new thread created in the Mass Media forum.

Presumably there is some duplication of content with Peacock and NOW/Sky so be interesting to see how that is sorted and whether some content is moved under the Peacock brand. Presumably they'll be an option to pay for Peacock without ads as well.

It would be funny if Pick gets rebranded as Sky Min.
Then they can market it by saying "This is just a sampling of what we offer, there's More on Max" (and Sky/Now as a whole).

I'm glad they have went with a standard logo for Sky Max and not used that awful stylised X that they had for Sky Sports Xtra that got ported over to Sky Sports Mix.
It will be interesting to see what they do with Pick and Challenge. It would be a shame to completely ditch the Sky One brand, maybe even as a new name for Pick with some new programmes to help enforce the fact that the channel is supposed to be one big ad for Sky. At the very least they could call it Sky Pick. If it doesn't have the Sky name or any half decent programming, then who is going to be enticed? What's the point of the channel then? I still think they should rebrand Challenge if they are going to keep it as either Sky Challenge or Sky Games or something along those lines. I don;t buy the whole argument that if cheap channels bear the Sky name it will damage the brand or drive people away. It wasn't a problem with Sky Travel and Sky 3 being on Freeview all those years.

I honestly can't see how Sky Showcase is going to perform well. It sounds like '4Seven' or '5Select' and they're putting it in their highest EPG position.
They previously tried Sky Movies Showcase, and that ended up in the bin after 5 months.
If people aren't watching your linear channels, or because they prefer to download on demand, perhaps creating a curated channel as your 'showcase' exhibit is really no better than setting up a projector in the local village hall and hoping someone will pop in. :?

I think you've misunderstood the point here - this is another step down the road to having all content divided between single-genre channels, which each have a linear station acting as a shop window to that content. The intention certainly isn't to improve the performance of their linear channels in and of themselves.
Sky Showcase is not the treasure, but the husk. It's a more honest name for a channel that will no longer aim to be an all-round entertainment channel to compete with the traditional terrestrial channels; it reflects that it is merely a linear output for miscellaneous content.

Sky Sports went the same way just over four years ago, and that has stuck - Sky Sports Main Event at the top, and largely single sport channels beneath that.

But sport works better as it's a one time event at different times of the day. Are they just going to simulcast new episodes of some shows on Sky Showcase in primetime?
