What it should have (in your opinion) and what it has are two entirely different things.
Sky Arts is available on Freeview, so it doesn't always justify eating into the replacement channel's time. Remember the whole point of commercial TV is to get backsides on sofas to watch the adverts, and if watching an archive recording of Pavarotti singing Nessun dorma did that for Sky One/Showcase, they'd have scheduled it already.

There are a few documentaries on the nights after, like Bruno V Tyson and The Commonwealth vs Michelle Carter.
Slightly OT and probably old news for a lot of people, but I came across Curb Your Enthusiasm on Sky Comedy a few days ago and noticed it was in 16:9 (and doesn't look like it's been cropped) which suprised me. Considering it's 20 years old, the fact it's SD and it was only in 4:3 on both the BBC and E4 showings, I'd assumed it was made that way, seems unusual for something made for US TV on SD video to have been in 16:9 at that point.

Wasn't Friends the same? Although it was never made for 16:9, it was shot on film and that was how they were able to "update" it to HD. Although it was obviously never ended to be seen that way and you can see the edge of the set and the occasional piece of equipment. Buffy of course had a complete bodge job done on it for HD purposes.

There's still a difference in that those two shows were shot on film, and quite often the film stock used was wider than 4:3 even if that extra picture wasn't intended to be used (and even Friends needed a remastering and rescanning of the film stock to get that extra picture, as the original transfers would have been in 4:3- and the framing on the HD versions often leaves a lot to be desired, with action clumped in the middle of the frame), whereas Curb was made on video, so was clearly intentionally shot and made in 16:9 to begin with (they'd have had the cameras set to 4:3 if they wanted it filmed that way).
Seems really unusual that the BBC and Channel 4 only ever had 4:3 copies seeing as 16:9 versions existed... presumably they weren't being offered to them by the distributor for some reason.

Also is this why to my surprise when watching on DVD. Stargate looking quite resplendent in widescreen and then when catching a ep on whichever channel it was it would be in 4:3 square.
Wouldn't assume Sky would be planning anything for Sky One, would definitely be a pleasant surprise if they did dig out old idents but the channel itself seems to just be a "retooling" rather than the death of a channel, seems more like the death of the brand more than its channel.
