Maybe the tv guide's made a mistake and that Emmerdale will be on at the usual time of 7pm, I mean unless there's a major news story, the programme cannot run for more than half an hour.
In that case it's been wrong for two weeks. We'll have to see.
Seems an odd choice to extend the Evening News by 15 minutes just to avoid a Bake Off/Im a Celeb clash later this evening. Maybe its helping to make up for the times when ITV News has been cut short due to sport etc as im sure there is a requirement for a set amount of news over the year.
Mary had just referenced that they’re on a little longer tonight and Emmerdale will follow at 7.15.
Seems like they’re filling with more investigative reports. Don’t think a 45 minute bulletin works daily unless it’s a particularly busy news day.
I wonder how many stories there will be in the tabloids about viewers being outraged at ITV’s major schedule shake up?
Not a usual ITV News viewer but was very surprised to find out it was extended by an extra 15 minutes compared to usual.
But my main reason for seeking out this thread is to make comment on Mary Nightingale's presentation. I always remembered her as very much straight down the line presenter but I couldn't help but notice that tonight she seems to be bobbing from side to side, waving her arms around and sounding on the verge of tears when reading some stories. Not sure if this is a usual thing but it comes across very odd.
I mean, kudos to them for managing to fill 45 minutes,
especially without adverts. I think they must be thankful it's not really a slow news day.

Considering until a few years ago, they ran a story annually about how The Chase was dead/axed/cancelled when it took its summer break, probably a few, particularly from the Express.

Yeah, she does sometimes do that. I think it's more that she's much more comfortable now. Alastair Stewart developed the same bobbing over his final few years at ITN, I remember it sometimes got quite extreme.

Really isn't appropriate for newsreaders to be doing impressions of the Prime Minister, even if they do have an extra 15 minutes to fill.

So that IAC avoids Bake Off. It'll be interesting to see if they can fill those extra fifteen minutes.
And they did manage to fill the full 45 minutes with no adverts neither before, during or after. No adverts since before 6 to 7:30 tonight.
I'm failing to understand why anyone would think ITN would struggle to fill 45 mins for any bulletin on any day.
Firstly they've known for weeks about this extended bulletin, and even if they'd been thrown the bone an hour before air, it's simple enough for a news powerhouse such as ITN to manage.
Don't think the new trailer style has worked as well the last couple of nights, especially the tease for the top story today which probably needs clearer explanation. The way they did it tonight was basically "Loads of people have died - tune in to find out how and why".

Agreed. It’s a shame as I quite liked it the first night. But when there’s big news stories, it doesn’t work.
It’s not even said what time it is on the other two nights despite it not being on ‘at Ten’.
Might just need tweaking to reference just one or two stories on days when more context is needed.
On the ‘Coming Up on News at Ten’ trailer, why are they using the ‘News at Ten Thirty’ swipe to show the next story?
Just watched the Lunchtime News - how come they're back to using 'static' shots, rather than the jib to pan in and out?

Lunchtime is usually static. It’s only usually Evening and News at Ten which uses the jib.
