ITV has done this for a while, well before GBN was a thing. To be fair, they're often using tweets from their reporters, there's only a couple from Tom Bradby come up - it's just that's the one I managed to screengrab.

I'm quite enjoying the tweets popping up from the editors throughout the speech. It's a nice way of them summarising and commenting on what's happening without interrupting what the Chancellor is saying.

They're doing full on summaries now


I do agree, it does seem very big. I wonder if it'd be better if it was slightly transparent?

Must admit, I do like the deep red colour, and the astons.

Red Colour was used on Budget 2021 in March, also made the desk lights inside red.

It was nice to see ITV News finally using red custom-made Budget titles, instead of the generic Lunchtime News titles. Would've been nice to hear the Election theme though.

I do think push backs are probably more effective in this case so that the thoughts of an editor can appear alongside the headlines of the announcement they are talking about.

i see they changed the correspondent shot and the way they sit, like it used to be on an angle but now its straight how it was before covid.

Not at all - Sky do it a lot with their sidebars in coverage such as this (or at least did before the refresh but I believe they still do) and I think the BBC do too.

Well it looks like this left Politics Live in the dust in terms of coverage this time around...it feels more like a Budget programme of old (the late 1990s), when even Peter Snow was involved with a graphics walk through as well! Obviously this programme didn't have that, but Politics Live just relied on the BBC's strength, which is it's on-screen Editors...some rather shoddy looking laptop backings in use too!

This looked slick and well produced.

I think when they were twice-yearly (not in name, of course) there was a feeling about dropping back the scale of Budget coverage. I noticed this one was called 'The Budget and Spending Review', I'm not sure if they're going to drop the Spending Review part eventually and we'll be back to yearly Budgets? Interesting comparisons to Brown's Budgets of old at the end of the BBC programme, so maybe they'll go back to a larger production if they are going to be more 'set piece'.

I remember there always used to be someone from the Treasury with the graphics team, making sure they didn't put anything out on screen before it was announced...it didn't feel like that was happening on the BBC programme at least, with a more 'news strap' operation going on. Of course, this was a heavily leaked Budget so I'm not sure that even happens anymore!

More to do with ITV itself rather than ITV News, but I think it could've benefited from an extra half-hour to allow the opposition more air time rather than cutting them off (so early), then swap out Tipping Point for the 30 minute clip show version. How long did Rachel Reeves speak for?
