Sometimes in the past few weeks, if you stay on a page on cnn.com for a while, an advert for live streaming comes up - in the background are various screens including one from The Brief. I thought that was a bit of a tenuous indication of The Brief returning, but with that interview as well, it does point to it potentially coming back. And as BBC World News shows, CNNI isn't the only one taking ages to get back to normal
Kaitlan Collins was anchoring New Day alongside Boris Sanchez today which I think is the first time I think she has been in a presenting role.
Don Lemmon might not be CNN's worst hour anymore. The title now goes to Jim Acosta's weekend outings. Had him on in the background now and couldn't help but notice his mini rant that was in the middle of what was supposed to be a news bulletin.
The overly theatrical attacks on FOX News ,Trump and Republicans and are so passé at this point, but this man clearly still thinks it's his way back to relevancy. At one point, he used the term ''foxed up'', instead of f#### up. That tells you all you need to know about the style of his monologues these days. The desperation is real.

I have to agree with you. Acosta was lauded for his coverage during the Trump
Presidency and a move to the anchor desk is usually deemed a promotion. You can’t help but feel that in Acosta’s case it’s a demotion. He’s rarely used during the week in his role as Chief National Correspondent and it’s even more rare to see him cover for anyone else.
I’m not a fan of his segments either.
Once again CNNI are using using domestic personnel to cover their output of Newsroom. We have Alison Kosik on for the 8-10 BST hours.
The mind boggles as to who and why these decisions are made. I’ve said it before - there is a huge pool of international anchors and it makes no sense why they turn to domestic staffing:

To be fair hasn't Kosik been on CNNI a fair bit over the years - particularly as a business correspondent and I'm sure I've seen her covering the likes of Maggie Lake and Julia Chatterley in the past.
Though it does seem odd if there's not a presenter available in Atlanta to not use London or Hong Kong when you've got experienced anchors like Max Foster, Isa Soares,Cyril Vanier, Bianca Nobilo, Anna Coren or Kristie LuStout available. Or even if they want that Newsroom presented from America surely they could've used Paula Newton?

Alison Kosik is known to CNN US viewers and has done loads on CNN International over the years. She regularly covered Maggie Lake on World Business Today. She did Quest Means Business a few days last week too, while Quest was in Spain.
We don't know the ins and outs of other anchors' contracts or the behind-the-scenes logistics of getting them on air to cover.

I'll try to word this carefully but if you're not a fan of Acosta then surely just avoid CNN during those hour? It's pretty known now that CNNI just simulcast Domestic for much of the weekend (with sponsored programmes also thrown in) so you know around that early evening time in Europe it will likely be Acosta on.
I haven't particular seen Acosta's programme but do find it slightly confusing how you seem to really dislike Acosta but meanwhile on say the GMB thread seem to be a real proponent of Piers Morgan when if anything Acosta is quite tame compared to the likes of Piers Morgan, Chris Cuomo or many of the Fox News hosts.
That said,I do think he probably did expect a maybe higher profile slot than weekend afternoons which aren't exactly primetime (especially when during the Trump presidency he was front and centre as CNN's White House Correspondent). That aid being on at weekends hasn't worked out too badly for Fredricka Whitfield - she's managed to outlast many a big-name anchor on CNN.
And certainly from what little I've heard Pamela Brown's Newsroom editions seem to be far more watchable fare than Jim Acosta's show. I do have to admit too I much prefer the current line-up of Kaitlin Collins and in particular the excellent Phil Mattingly as their main political correspondent over when Jim Acosta was their lead man. Collins and Mattingly are definetely two rising stars for CNN.

She's Ottawa based, so probably not very practical for the odd cover shift. Usually tends to cover when one or more anchors are off for a week or more and she can fill in on multiple shows during a single trip to Atlanta or New York

It's no secret I dislike him, ever since he started his WH stunts. Before that he was perfectly ok for me.
My main issue is that he's using a weekend news bulletin to put his opinions out, in a very aggressive, late night talk show kind of way. This is not primetime when you now expect CNN talking heads to scream their opinions at you. This is not GMB where Morgan's rants and tantrums were essential viewing. This is weekend CNN Newsroom, which are mostly straight forward news bulletins. Fredricka, Pamela, New Day weekend team all stick to anchoring without monologues. But Acosta can't stand that and has to continue trying to get attention and headlines.
As for Alison Kosik, I'd say she's more CNNI than CNN US. CNNI has more business shows and content and she has appeared regularly on all of them, even filling in on Newsrooms occasionally many times times in the past.

Hasn't it been the case for quite a while though that there's at least one or two more 'opinionated' presenters at weekends on CNN?
By the time Don Lemon was leaving weekends he'd become much more opinionated and OTT than in his early days when his programme was much more straight-laced. After him, there was Ana Cabrera who again had an overdramatic style (particularly noticable in her coverage of Kpbe Bryant's death).
Before Acosta on Saturdays, you have Smerconish whose presentation can be quite full-on and on Sundays you have Brian Stelter's opinionted presentation as well on Reliable Sources.
Abby Phillip is now off air from presenting for until later this year now as she will be having her baby. Manu Raju will be covering her on Sundays for a bit.
Can we appreciate that they didn’t even tag the right account for CNN en Español?
