It was nice to see Will Ripley covering the space rocket story from the HK studio. Is it just me or has CNN been using the studio more? I feel like Kristie has also been in studio a lot more recently.

Will Ripley is actually still broadcasting from home according to his Instagram. His backdrop is actually the view from his apartment albeit being beamed onto his TV!

Not too sure what the exact arrangements in HK have been as KLS has been doing a mix of both home and office broadcasts while Anna Coren has always been in the office. I suspect it might just be up to the staff themselves whether to WFH or not at this point.
There was some updates to The Situation Room in Studio A/B Washington yesterday. New desk and updated screen behind Wolf.

Not a fan of their “handoffs” personally but they seem to be popular enough - so popular in fact it’s becoming a weekly podcast...

Ugly desk. DC sets look so local....

This is the desk that was originally fabricated for John Berman and Michaela Periera’s “@This Hour”. CNN really like these lego desks where you can add pieces as needed. While I get the intent both this desk and the New Day DC/The Lead desks just look cheap. I’m not sure why they didn’t bring out the old red desks, especially since he doesn’t have any in-person guests.

On another note, the CNN online schedule shows “Hala Gorani Tonight” returning next week!

Yes returns from the 17th May at 7pm UK time with Amanpour moving back to 6pm UK time which replaces the US Newsroom simulcast with Ana Cabrera.

At last. Fantastic news. That’s means that there will be a block of seven and a half hours of CNNI programming on weekdays assuming nothing major happens in the U.S.

That's great news, finally!

And here's a look at CNN and the UK live stream paywall, seems they are saying ad-free at first and depending on how many get it they'll add ads possibly in the future. https://www.thedrum.com/news/2021/05/11/...livestream

Well nothing major is happening right now in the US, and yet CNN International programming has been dropped and they are simulcasting CNN US reporting on an international story again...

Expert International anchors ditched again...
The likes of Quest, Becky, Hala or Amanpour would be ideal to anchor coverage of Israel. But no...

They have opted out of The Lead on International to continue the airstrike coverage with Richard Quest.

EDIT: Looks like they finished the opt out at 10pm UK time with them now back to domestic.

This is an interesting comment in that article: "The UK is CNN’s largest market behind the US and Canada in terms of digital audience, and it grew by 73% in 2020."

People flooded to CNN (and I imagine other news networks) last year, no doubt because of the pandemic and the US election. Would be interesting to know how overall viewership held up last year, not just digital.

Great news that Hala returns next week! I would really like to see Bianca Nobilo's show return next, that was a standout show for the brief amount of time it aired pre-pandemic.
Echo what others have said - it's great to see Hala's programme returning next week. Means there's a much more solid International block of news now.

Hala is one of CNN's best (on either channel) and with CNNI output having a greater breadth of global stories in recent months Hala will hopefully have plenty to stick her teeth into and be able to showcase her international news expertise rather than just have to do the endless Trump discussions CNNI would do pre pandemic.

It'd be good to get Bianca Nobilo's show and YWT back too shortly - Cyril Vanier seems to have returned to London and it's not as if CNN were stuck for London correspondents. With vaccination numbers too so strong in both America and the UK and with both countries opening up too you have to imagine CNNI output would be returning to normal sooner rather than later.
Hala did QMB from London newsroom tonight.

Jake Tapper promoting his book EVERY DAY, at the end of his show is another CNN US low point international viewers have to suffer through.

I really wish YTW and The Brief would come back but I doubt it. All the presenters involved have removed show info from their social media so that's not a good sign.

I agree with you, it’s distasteful and grubby watching a journalist like Jake Tapper promoting his own book on his own show.

I presume at one of them is going anyway since The Situation Room is now permanently on International at 11pm so my guess it's Your World Tonight that suffers unless they drop the Outfront simulcast for that.
